Benjamin Somogyi liked thisBenjamin Somogyi liked thisI realised today, that I'd been doing this CTO thing for quite a while now and maybe aspiring CTOs would want to know a bit more about what good looks like from my time in the role... Often, CTOs might worry that they're not really an equal participant in the business conversations and that they are there as a specialist rather what their own experiences and commercial acumen can bring to the wider conversation. Mark Schwartz wrote some great books on this which really helped me, but let me boil it down in a slightly different way... If you are finding that your peers in the exec team are still starting conversations about product/technology with "It's just..." then maybe you still have some work to do communicating the importance of delivering high quality customer experiences in short time frames? If however, they're starting with "It's just..." pausing, laughing and then apologising, then its more likely your value to the team is being effectively recognised! A strong team will deliver results and a strong team is founded on everyone respecting how everyone brings their value and experience to the table. Make it your job to understand how everyone delivers their piece and expect your peers to do the same for you. I'm working at so and so now but... I have to say I'm really impressed by the outpouring of this company. Now I'll grant you, I'm actively reaching out to people but.... Onboarding process Engagement from people (that aren't even on my team) Willingness to mentor to get me ramped up IT Support Professionalism Kindness Smiles This is getting fun. I'm not sure I've thought that way about a job in a while. God help me if this is a dream, I'm gonna be so pissed.

It took understanding of the current financial system.
