Brian Morrissey shared thisWe're launching TRB Audience Summit, a one-day event for leading media executives who are building the future of the industry with audience-first models. The last genearation was about getting traffic from search and social and outsourcing monetization. The next generation of these businesses will be built around developing deep ties to specific audiences. Join us on Sept 17 in NYC. https://lnkd.in/eKZweg-g

Brian Morrissey reposted thisBrian Morrissey reposted thisMost industry events for media leaders are a waste of time. We proved everyone wrong at the World Cup. The usual media event goes this way: 1. Put 100s of people in a ballroom. 2. Book a stage. 3. Lineup the usual keynote speakers. 4. Fill the room with mid-level managers sent in place of the people who actually make the decisions. We tried the opposite. Last weekend we brought together senior leaders from 18 media companies across news, weather, sports, and entertainment. We ran real sessions on audience growth and the state of the ad business, roundtables moderated by Brian Morrissey of The Rebooting, and honest conversation about where this industry actually goes next. Then we watched France and England play the World Cup bronze medal match together. What did we change from a traditional event? We put actual decision-makers in a room small enough for candor, and made it safe to share what is actually working and what is not. One executive summed up the weekend better than I could: "This is like summer camp for media leaders. We meet new people, we learn, and we have fun." You can send the deck. You can take the call. But the exchanges that move this business forward happened in the hallways between sessions, over dinner, and in the stands during a match none of us will forget. Trust gets built in person. That matters more than ever right now, when everyone in media is facing the same hard questions at the same time, and few have a room where they can talk about them openly. That room is what we are building with Apex by Raptive: bringing media CEOs and C-level leaders together for experiences like this one, as peers who learn from each other. Grateful to everyone who traveled, shared openly, and made it what it was. This is the group that is going to shape what comes next. More soon on what we heard on the ground.

Not yet." 🎤 At Cannes Lions, Paul Jelinek, Chief Business Officer at EX․CO, joins Brian Morrissey of The Rebooting for TRB Conversations. He shares: 🎬 The rise of content creator communities and sports personalities building real IP 🔍 Where AI is actually showing up today: as a tactical tool for discovery and visibility 🚀 Why the biggest shift this year isn't AI, it's who's building franchises around themselves Watch the full conversation: https://hubs.li/Q04q9V8Y0 #Cannes #CTV #AdTech #Monetization

Brian Morrissey shared thisThe same object is valued differently when people know the story of how another human crafted it by hand rather than it being mass produced by a conglomerate. Effort, particularly wrapped in a narrative, is assigned extra value. Much of AI content requires little effort and is therefore assigned low value.

Brian Morrissey reposted thisBrian Morrissey reposted thisWe’re incredibly excited to announce that Brian Morrissey is joining Editory as an advisor. Brian is the founder of The Rebooting, where he covers the evolution of the media industry and the work of building sustainable media businesses. Before launching The Rebooting, he spent nearly a decade as President and Editor-in-Chief of Digiday. Few people understand the challenges and opportunities facing modern media companies as deeply as Brian does. As Editory continues building video infrastructure for modern journalism, Brian will advise us on our media strategy, product direction, and how we can create the most meaningful possible value for newsrooms. More importantly, Brian has believed in what we’re building and has already challenged us to think bigger and more critically about where Editory fits into the future of media. We’re honored to have him in our corner and incredibly excited for what comes next. Welcome to Editory, Brian!

Brian Morrissey shared thisThe amount of PR slop being created right now is staggering. For whatever reason, podcast PR is ground zero of this nonsense, which cannot be effective. What's worse is it's an incredibly sweaty look for the client. There are 10 PR people for every working journalist. What are these people doing if they're just feeding stuff into Claude? Companies are getting ripped off.Brian Morrissey shared thisDear Public Relations Professionals, Many of my best ideas come from you. You're storytellers who try to connect the dots and generate news. But the number of AI-generated pitches I'm now getting has increased 5X over the past year. These pitches often start with "Because you've covered TK" and end with "NameTK can speak to:" followed by four bullet points. My advice: Keep it short, newsworthy, and personal. And please read what I write to understand what I cover and how. Here's the signup for Fortune CEO Daily. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/g7JMEZvM

Brian Morrissey shared thisHow do you stand out when AI is leading to an oversupply of everything? So many parts of the media ecosystem will need to be overhauled, including public relations. The gatekeeping, media training and press release industrial complex is as out of date an eBlast.

Brian Morrissey shared thisOn People vs Algorithms, Troy explains why affiliate advertising has become a critical part of digital advertising. Affiliate advertising is thriving as the entire market shifts in its direction. As the internet acts as a performance advertising medium, affiliate advertising attaches transactional value to impressions. Moving forward, affiliate advertising will continue to grow and serve as a logical way to monetize chat interfaces by tracking commerce transactions through specific SKUs and their IDs.

OpenTable is teaming up with Peacock to celebrate The Five Star Weekend, the new series inspired by Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling novel and featuring a five-star cast (had to 😉), including Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, Chloë Sevigny, and more. Inspired by the series' Nantucket setting and its themes of friendship, food, and gathering, OpenTable has partnered with select restaurants across the country to bring coastal-inspired brunch experiences to life. CSC is continuing to see demand for memorable, in-person experiences & love that partnerships like this show how it’s possible. Congrats to all of the many many teams who worked on this 🍽️ 📺 Book your brunch spot here: https://lnkd.in/gARFFqJ6

Brian Morrissey liked thisBrian Morrissey liked this145. As of this morning, that’s how many countries can now access InPress 🌏. When we first launched back in 2024, the requests started coming in almost immediately asking us to hurry up and get there. It’s always something you want to do as a founder…but the timing has to be right, and the product has to be ready. Now is finally that time. So before anything else, gratitude. To the supporters who kept nudging us to get InPress in their country - even ordering our merch to all corners of the world ❤️. To a team that treated the wild ups, downs, and gametime decisions - of which this could be categorized. And, of course, to the people who backed this company early, when the ambition was bigger than the footprint. You all got us here. We have some very big updates to announce soon, but for now, if there’s someone outside rhe U.S. in your life who’s given up on their feed, point them our way. Being well-informed is a human need, not just an American need.

Brian Morrissey liked thisBrian Morrissey liked thisLast weekend reminded me why I love this industry so much! We brought together senior leaders from 18 of the world's most recognizable media companies across news, weather, sports, and entertainment for something different. Real sessions on audience growth and the ad business, bookended by a roundtable led by Brian Morrissey of The Rebooting that turned into one of the more refreshing and honest conversations about where media is headed next. Then we watched France and England battle for World Cup bronze in Miami ⚽️ Marc McCollum captured the best quote of the weekend in his post earlier: "summer camp for media leaders" is exactly right. This weekend was a small glimpse into where Raptive is headed with Apex. Media CEOs and C-level leaders coming together as peers, wrestling with the same big questions, and learning from each other in true partnership. Because the conversations that move this business forward don't happen on a stage at a massive conference... they happen over weekends like these. Grateful to our team for the effort they put into making the weekend wonderful, and all of our guests who showed up and shared so openly. I'm confident this group was representative of who and what is going to shape what's next in digital media, and we're just getting started!

The television media architecture provides the public with two types of frames: episodic and thematic. The episodic news framing will treat political issues/events as specific, isolated and individual events. Iyengar argues that television news relies overwhelmingly on episodic framing, focusing on individual cases, individual victims and individuals responsible for it. Using such episodic framing, the television media leads the audience to blame individual choices or flaws rather than focus on systematic, governmental or structural failures.
