Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reposted thisCarlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reposted thisIf you're in SF, you have probably seen the 995 Market street building (next to the Ikea building), a 16-storey building and formerly a full-blown WeWork office. Since folding, the building has been acquired by a team of german entrepreneurs, has been renamed "The Frontier Tower" and turned into a decentralized deeptech community, a unique experiment worldwide. Each floor has a theme (robotics, biotech, blockchain, etc...) where entrepreneurs can build with labs at their disposal. I sat down with Christian Nagel, one of the co-founders of the project, to talk about what's in store for the tower and how this could become the new epicenter in downtown SF for deeptech innovation. Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer shared thisKenji Yamamoto slept in a bunk bed at Startup Embassy with his camera on the pillow, and he kept doing that for ten years. He was decades older than everyone else in the house. Before he got to me he had knocked on house after house, and every one said no. They had their own reasons. I'll leave those where they are. Mine was simple and rigid: Startup Embassy took founders and nobody else. As far as I know we were the only house in the Valley that held a line like that. So a filmmaker was a no, and I went to that coffee to tell him so. What got me was a selfish thought. I was betting everything, far from my family, and it hit me that if this worked it would all be on tape and one day I could show my kids. If it fell apart, that would be on tape too, and at least they'd understand what it cost. So I broke the one rule I never broke and let him move in. He came looking for the ending everyone shoots in Silicon Valley: the breakthrough, the moment one of us made it, so he could pack up and cut his film. He waited a year. Then another one. What kept happening in front of him was the long middle. People spending their savings and their twenties and thirties on something that might never work, flying home, coming back, trying again. Somewhere in there the film started costing him his savings, his job and nearly his marriage. He was doing the exact same thing we were. So he turned the camera on himself and became the fourth dreamer. I couldn't tell you when we stopped noticing the camera. Nobody who lived there could. He has a talent for going invisible in a room. Then he asks you something ordinary and twenty minutes later you're saying things you never planned to tell anybody. People do write about hacker houses. Every so often a reporter finds one, sees something shiny, writes it up, moves on. Some can't get past the front door, some aren't allowed, most were only there for the shine. I've read those pieces since 2012 and I've never once recognized the house I ran in any of them. Kenji is the only outsider who stayed long enough to film what happens after the reporter leaves: the deal that dies, the flight home, the money running out. It shows the part you'd never go looking for. I've argued for years that these houses are the engine of Silicon Valley. The famous garage was a consequence of something far less photogenic: people from all over the world under one roof, splitting rent, eating together, handing each other code and contacts at one in the morning. That's the room. Ten years of that room exist on tape because one man kept knocking until somebody opened. And the guy who opened did it for reasons that had nothing to do with cinema. "The Dreamers and I" follows Habibe, Lucas, Kenji and me. It's on PBS now. These days I'm a partner at Frontier Tower in San Francisco. Different building, same job: taking care of founders far from home. None of this exists without Kenji and Nancy Kelly. They spent ten years of their lives making it.

Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reposted thisTo all my VC + angel investor friends in SF (or visiting next week): I’d love to have you in the room with us next Thursday. For the past 2 months, I’ve been running on a 9-9-7 schedule helping bring our first founders residency to life. Next week, the cohort finally unveils what they’ve been building at Demo Day. Some genuinely exciting companies are coming out of this cohort, and I have a feeling this will be one of those afternoons people will remember they were early to. See you at frontiertower May, 28th 4pm? Spots are limited, RSVP and DM me to make sure you get in. https://lnkd.in/gU7tNh7MCarlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reposted thisSan Francisco has always been where the most ambitious founders come to build. That’s why we started Frontier Residency SF = frontiertower × Superhero: → stay with ambitious founders from all over the world → build inside a 16-floor innovation hub → ship to real users from Day 1 750+ members. 200K+ audience. AI, biotech, crypto, robotics, and more - all under one roof. For the past 2 months, Batch 0's founders have been building inside this ecosystem. They’ll unveil what they’ve been working on at Demo Day next week. Investor spots are limited and nearly gone. If you want to be in the room with some of SF’s top investors before these companies finish to close their rounds, now’s the time: https://lnkd.in/giBV_erM

Location: Our hacker house in Lakewood, just an 18-minute drive from the site of ETHDenver #BUIDLathon & Festival. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/dDSWKKxS ----------------------------------------------- Hello everyone! I'm so excited to announce that I'm teaming up with Rodrigo and we will be attending the ETHDenver Festival next week to take part in the #BUILDLWEEK Hackathon! We are looking forward to learning more about web3 technologies and how to apply them to the game we are building to gamify Startup Embassy's community of founders. We are also hoping to meet new people and make some great connections! We've also been working hard to create the second Startup Embassy Backpacker Edition: Our goal is to give back to the community by providing a free hacker house for entrepreneurs. We've already had an amazing experience in #DevconBogota and can't wait to see the results from ETHDenver. If you're interested in attending with us, please find out how to apply in the attached post. Let's BUIDL together! #StartupEmbassy #ETHDenver #BUIDLWEEK #web3 #hackhathon

Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer shared thisWe still have free beds!! If anyone is going to #DevconBogota next week and still hasn't booked a hotel, we are giving 10 beds free of cost at the Mercure Bogota Calle 100 in the neighborhood of Chapinero. It's a 4-star hotel and we've booked 5 double rooms, so you would share a room with another builder. We will select 10 winners from those who finish this game: https://lnkd.in/dKz8H8W2 #devcon #web3

Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer shared thisTL;DR: Startup Embassy is giving away free lodging for 10 lucky winners who are attending #Devcon #Bogota. Dates: October 10th - October 15th, location: a nice hotel within walking distance from the venue(*). Very excited to attend Devcon Bogota. I’ve always missed the coliving experience we foster at Startup Embassy in large events like Devcon. I’m the type of guy that is not that interested in the talks and spends most of the time in the corridors meeting new people. For that reason, I wish the community experience of those events would start the day before when we all arrive at the hotels and would be extended beyond just the event or the parties associated with it. I’ve always thought that Devcon should have a #coliving: for those of us who don’t mind sharing a room with a couple of people, especially if they are like-minded and are attending the same event where we are hoping to connect anyways, a coliving brings another level to the experience. If you are a solo founder, you won’t need to spend two days until you network and you’ll find a community the first day you arrive in the city. This is the reason why my team and I have decided to test a new idea: We have booked 10 beds at a nearby hotel within walking distance of Devcon’s venue(*), and we’re giving them free of cost to Devcon attendees who don’t mind sharing a room. There’s just one catch: You must be community-minded and an entrepreneur/builder. The reason is that we see this as an extension of Startup Embassy’s community, which is made exclusively from founders (2k+ in 90 countries). We’re calling this project Startup Embassy Backpacker Edition. If it works, my idea is to do this in most large web3 events around the world, hopefully giving away 30 to 50 beds each time. I hope we will be able to extend this idea to having more perks, like doing parties, providing safe transport from the airport, or even providing SIM cards with a data connection. I’m sure more ideas will come up. If you are attending Devcon Bogota and are interested, dare to get to the end of this game: https://lnkd.in/dKz8H8W2 I came up with this idea just two days ago, so this is the reason why I’m telling this with such short notice. I understand that most of you who are going have already booked a room. My suggestion is to use a booking engine like booking.com and book a room at the hotel you would go to and make sure you can cancel the reservation on the same day of arrival. This way, if you win one of the beds we are giving away, you can cancel your reservation free of cost. I hope this is something that resonates with the web3 community and looking forward to meeting you! (*) We have booked different hotels. Some are near the venue, others not so much, but we believe are better. We’ll let the community decide which one they prefer. #web3

Carlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reacted on thisCarlos de la Lama-Noriega Pfrimmer reacted on thisOnam reminded me of something we often forget when we talk about remote work: behind every person working from home, there is mostly a supportive family. At Cornercart, our team members work from different places, but our families have quietly been part of the journey too. They have seen the late calls, the busy days, the conversations about work over dinner, and all the little sacrifices that come with building a company from home. So this Onam, it felt right to bring those families into our celebration too. For me, this is one of the things I value about building CornerCart from Kerala. A company may be built by its employees, but the people around them often become an invisible part of that journey. This Onam, we got to celebrate them as well.

The Most Valuable VC-Backed Startups in the World — 2025 Edition As Rubén Domínguez Ibar dive into the $10B+ club of startups, we’re not just looking at numbers; we’re witnessing a profound shift in the landscape of technology and investment. Key Insights: 1. AI Dominance: It's no surprise that companies harnessing the power of artificial intelligence are leading the charge. Giants like OpenAI and newcomers such as Perplexity and Mistral are setting the stage for a future where AI is ubiquitous in our daily lives. 2.The Private Market Universe: The private investment landscape has evolved into a thriving universe of its own. This year, we’re seeing startups staying private longer, allowing them to grow without the pressure of quarterly earnings reports. This trend indicates a fundamental shift in how companies approach growth and revenue generation. 3. Geopolitical Influence: Startups are not just economic players; they’re becoming pivotal in global influence. The likes of SpaceX and ByteDance are redefining what's possible within their sectors, often impacting broader cultural and political narratives. Our Analysis Includes: - A comprehensive breakdown of every startup valued at over $10B, meticulously curated by Trace Cohen. - Insightful patterns emerging across sectors like AI, fintech, defense, robotics, and infrastructure. - Implications for founders and investors as we approach 2026, spotlighting potential opportunities and challenges. Explore the full list and get our detailed analysis here: [https://lnkd.in/duBS6fbX) We would love to hear your thoughts! Which company on the list surprised you the most? And which company do you think will break into this exclusive club next? Let’s discuss in the comments! Together, let's navigate the exciting journey of innovation and investment! **The Power of Community-Driven Innovation in Connectivity** Tristan Thompson's partnership with World Mobile to launch Uplift showcases how innovative solutions can transform network accessibility. By enabling local hosts, or "AirNode operators," to profit from their community's network, this model not only incentivizes participation but also empowers neighborhoods to take charge of their connectivity needs. At ElevenX Capital, we believe that community-focused initiatives can significantly drive both social impact and investment returns. 🔥 European deeptech is on fire right now! $22.1B was raised by European deeptech startups just in the first six months of 2026 — already surpassing the total of any previous year and on track to double the total by the end of the year! $14B was raised in Q2 alone. Against the roughly $44.5B raised by all European startups in H1, deep tech alone now represents close to half of the capital deployed. #AI #deeptech #Europe

According to the National Venture Capital Association, 34% of startup failures involve IP disputes. Without documented proof, startups face 18-month litigation delays and $400,000+ in legal fees. This startup used SealMyIdea to timestamp its code at every development milestone. When a competitor launched a copycat app, the startup filed a copyright infringement claim with certified proof. The court ruled in the startup's favor within 8 weeks - an unusually fast resolution. According to the Software & Information Industry Association, startups with certified proof win 96% of code theft cases. The competitor was forced to shut down, and the startup's valuation increased 340% (investor confidence in IP protection).
