Dan Boschen shared thisWant to learn how software radios operate in the presence of multipath and harsh environments? Today, September 24th, is the last day to get the $100 early-registration discount for the next run of the Signal Processing for Software Radio course. We'll go through modern techniques for carrier recovery, timing recovery, automatic gain control, and equalization. We'll cover what magic we can do in the digital processing to make up for the "dirty RF" from the analog front-end for high performance radio implementations. I've spent a career developing radio transceivers and related electronics for operating in harsh environments, combined with a passion for digital signal processing. I bring an intuitive view combining these areas not found elsewhere and would love to share this with you. Over the next 5 weeks starting October 1st you'll have access to 3 hours of pre-recorded video each week combined with live Q&A sessions to make sure everything lands and to dig into good discussions. Please join me, and I look forward to seeing you there! Details and registration: https://lnkd.in/gxeD9WfN

Dan Boschen shared thisThe popular Signal Processing for Software Radio course is kicking off again on October 1. The early registration deadline to get $100 off is this Thursday, September 24. This online 5 week course combines pre-recorded video with live Q&A workshops. I go through many of the functional blocks found in software radio receivers and bring intuition and practical design considerations forward. It’s a lot of fun, I hope to see you there! Dan Boschen reposted thisDan Boschen reposted this"This is a one of a kind course on a very practical subject, and is highly recommended for anyone working in the field of modern communications systems." - Etay S., Senior Communications Algorithms Engineer, ISSI. Dan Boschen's Signal Processing for Software Radio course will run again starting October 1, and early-bird pricing ends this Thursday, September 24. What the five classes cover: - DSP review, radio architectures, digital mapping, pulse shaping, eye diagrams - ADC receiver, CORDIC rotator, digital down converters, numerically controlled oscillators - Digital control loops: output power control, automatic gain control - Digital control loops: carrier and timing recovery, sigma delta converters - RF signal impairments, equalization and compensation, linear feedback shift registers How it works: ten 1.5-hour pre-recorded videos, released two per week, that you can watch on your own schedule and as many times as you want, plus live Q&A workshops with Dan every week from October 8 through November 5. The videos stay available for up to two months after the course ends. Dan has an MS in Communications and Signal Processing from Northeastern University, over 25 years of experience designing radio transceivers and modems at Signal Technologies, MITRE, Airvana, Hittite Microwave and Microchip, and he is one of the top contributors on the DSP Stack Exchange. Early bird: $195 until Thursday, September 24. $295 after that. Two time-zone options: America Times: https://lnkd.in/gR9rzqtE Europe / Asia Times: https://lnkd.in/gtQhWUFk If you know an engineer who would benefit from this, please forward it to them before Thursday. #DSP #SDR #SoftwareRadio #SignalProcessing #WirelessCommunications #RFEngineering

Dan Boschen shared thisNext week at GRCon26 in Raleigh, I'll be wearing two hats: Control Systems with Python: a hands-on workshop from The DSP Coach, LLC. We'll go from loop fundamentals to working implementations you can carry straight into your own PLLs, AGCs, and tracking loops. RF in Slow Motion: a talk for SigPro Labs, LLC, showing how the RadioSonic DSP learning platform brings RF signal processing down to audio scale, so anyone can learn software radio hands-on at a fraction of the usual hardware cost. Registration is still open, and it's a great week if you work anywhere near software radio. Hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/ghvUZ_rB #GNURadio #DSP #RadioSonic

Dan Boschen shared thisOur filters course just hit a huge milestone. Over 100 students enrolled! This is going to be SO MUCH FUN. We're looking forward to seeing the great discussions in the class message board and to see what our students will do with the hardware. To accommodate the demand and all of our international students, Jamie Mitchell, PMP and I decided to add in a second live Q&A workshop session per lesson. This way we can better accommodate our international audience and the various time zones. Both sessions will be recorded for each of the four modules. Reminder, today September 11 is the last day to get $100 off (register by 11:59pm EDT). Registration ends 9/30. Dan Boschen liked thisDan Boschen liked thisThis was my first conference as an industry researcher. I thought working in industry might have helped me hide my imposter syndrome, but it turns out it didn’t. This week, I attended my third GNU Radio Project event, GRCon 2026, at North Carolina State University. It was also my first time representing Tiami Networks as a conference sponsor. I spent most of my time at our booth, so I missed many talks. But I’m sure GRCon brought together some cool SDR research and signal processing ideas this year, as always. Thank you to Tiami Networks and all the other sponsors, organizers, and contributors who made this event happen. I hope to see more women in STEM, particularly in ISAC, radar, and SDR research, at future conferences. With that, see you next time, #GRCon'26!

For decades, specific absorption rate (SAR) testing has been the gold standard for measuring how the human body absorbs radiofrequency energy. It is a perfect solution for sub 6 GHz frequencies but as we push through 2026, frequencies are changing fast; traditional SAR testing is no longer technically applicable. https://lnkd.in/g9UFKZ2x

🔍 Why PrimeLoop outperforms chip antennas 🔍 Compared to chip antennas, PrimeLoop offers measurable advantages in terms of efficiency, bandwidth and system costs, which directly translate into better range and longer battery life. Efficiency advantage: 2 to 2.5 dB more antenna gain The key advantage lies in radiation efficiency. In compact IoT enclosures, chip antennas typically achieve an efficiency of only 45 to 65 %, which equates to a loss of more than 3 dB. PrimeLoop operates close to the Chu-Harrington limit and delivers approximately 2 to 2.5 dB more antenna gain than conventional #SMT #chip #antennas. In practice, this means up to 3 dB less transmit power is required, or half the transmit power for the same range. For battery-powered IoT devices, this extends battery life by 30 to 50%. Bandwidth: Multiband without compromise Chip antennas are typically single-band or dual-band solutions with limited bandwidth. PrimeLoop provides continuous coverage from 690 to 2700 MHz, including 4G LTE, 5G NR and NTN bands n249, n255 and n256. This multi-band capability eliminates the need for multiple antennas or complex switching networks. Use of the Ground Plane: A System Rather Than a Component Chip antennas require a defined keep-out zone free of copper on all layers. Any violation of this zone detunes the antenna and dramatically reduces its efficiency. PrimeLoop actively utilises the PCB ground as an integral part of the radiation system, turning a perceived disadvantage into an advantage. Cost and Supply Chain: No external components Chip antennas are separate components that must be assembled, stored and procured. PrimeLoop is a trace structure with no additional component costs. For high volumes, this saves significant material and assembly costs. Miniaturisation: Close to the physical limit The Chu limit describes the fundamental trade-off between size, bandwidth and efficiency. PrimeLoop operates close to this limit and achieves a measured efficiency of 89 per cent with a PCB length of 140 mm. Chip antennas remain within a comparable PCB size. We’d love to hear from you How would you utilise the efficiency advantage of 2 to 2.5 dB in your next IoT product? What features would you like to see in future antenna solutions, such as even broader multiband coverage or integrated tuning elements? Share your thoughts in the comments.
