Gloria Liou shared thisWhen you ask someone what part of their job makes them feel happiest (or least happy!) - they’ll often talk about people. What their manager said or did, how a coworker treated them, whether others at work provide a sense of belonging and safety. As our field looks for ways to improve well-being at work, we should examine how organizations can update their personnel selection (i.e., hiring) processes to incorporate this goal. In my recent commentary, I argue that if the goal is safeguarding employee well-being, organizations should select for characteristics that will affect *others’* well-being - that this is a better strategy than selecting for characteristics predictive of one’s own well-being, and that this should apply to all applicants, not just those in leadership roles! We'd love to hear your thoughts/ideas/experiences about this! My and Louis Tay's full commentary here: https://lnkd.in/eZGzEn8q #wellbeing #selectionGloria Liou shared thisProud of my grad student, Gloria Liou, for her new commentary in IJSA. König et al. (2026) made a case that well-being should be an explicit criterion in personnel selection. But they also noted that selecting for applicants who appear "well" risks discriminating against people with mental health conditions. But Gloria reframes it. If the goal is safeguarding employee well-being, selecting for traits that predict others' well-being matters more than selecting for traits that predict one's own. What would change in your workplace if we were actually concerned not merely for task performance but for their impact on others' flourishing in a team or organization? https://lnkd.in/gjEePrpJ #wellbeing #selection

And have received validation from researchers and participants through strong ratings for our research platform (4.7/5.0) and mobile apps (Android: 4.3; iOS: 4.7) - We are growing more features thanks to active researcher input: geographic EMA, participant payments, sharing dashboards with clinicians, and more Thank you to all our researchers and participants for helping make ExpiWell what we are today! #ema #esm #experiencesampling #survey #research #app #platform #expiwell

Gloria Liou reacted on thisGloria Liou reacted on thisThese are some of the areas in Bears Ears in Utah that are no longer protected after President Trump's executive orders shrunk Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments by 90 percent each. When it was announced, lies were told, such as, “You can't go hunting, you can't go fishing, you can't do anything. You can virtually not even walk on it.” People can hunt, fish, walk, climb and camp in both monuments, and the protections prevented drilling and mining that could ruin a great hike and harm the ecosystem. The federal government had agreed to work with Tribal Nations to collaboratively manage these public lands. That commitment was also dismantled with this illegal action. Gloria Liou reacted on thisFeeling very grateful to have been a part of this year's Aspen Academy Science and Tech Policy Fellowship! I had the pleasure of spending the last month with an incredible group of fellows, advisors, and program staff. In a time when it can be difficult to feel a sense of agency, this program has left me feeling hopeful, empowered, and inspired.Gloria Liou reacted on this📣 “It can feel really overwhelming to think about impacting policy, but there are so many ways to start small,” said Alice Tan, a 2026 Science and Technology Policy Fellow. 💡 As part of her Fellowship, Alice participated in our Policy 101 training, which broke down our 6 steps to policy impact, defined key terms, and gave her with an overarching a framework for understanding how policy change really works. She put these lessons into practice right away when pitching proposals to government leaders this past month. 🌟 Are you looking for small ways to jumpstart your policy journey? Join our free, virtual Policy 101 webinar on July 8, 9–10am PT/12–1pm ET, for the same training that helped Alice. 🔗 Learn more and register today: https://lnkd.in/gjU7Xt6R #PublicPolicy #CivicEngagement #ProfessionalDevelopment

Gloria Liou reacted on thisGloria Liou reacted on thisI am excited to share that I successfully defended my dissertation yesterday, completing my PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Purdue University! I'd like to thank my advisor, Tara Behrend, for supporting me every step of the way. I'd also like to thank my committee, Brad Alge, Alex Harris-Watson, and Sang Eun Woo, whose insight and feedback pushed this project further than I could have taken it on my own. These past 6 years have been challenging and rewarding in equal measure. I've grown so much, both personally and as a researcher, and so much of that growth is thanks to the incredible mentors and peers who supported me along the way. Grateful for my time at Purdue and excited for what's next!

Gloria Liou liked thisGloria Liou liked thisI'm happy to share that I've joined SEP as a Software Engineer in Westfield, IN, after graduating from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology! I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned and continuing to grow as an engineer, a teammate, and a person. SEP is known for producing high-quality software, so I can't wait to learn from people who care deeply about their craft and their customers. Thank you to my family, friends, and mentors for all of their support. Special thanks to the recruiting team at SEP and to Kyle Pinches for a great recruitment experience. I'm excited for what's next!

Gloria Liou reacted on thisGloria Liou reacted on thisAs a parent, it's tough to know if you're doing a good job...and then something like this happens 😁 Sierra and her friend decided to have an impromptu lemonade stand this morning. Colleen Moerlein and I warned them that a 10:00am lemonade sale on a Thursday morning might not yield many customers. But they definitely proved us wrong. Instead of charging $1 per cup, they offered the lemonade for free, with the option to provide a tip. They made up to $20 per cup! Their approach was smart and it paid off, but I'm most proud of what they did next. Sierra asked her friend if they could donate what they made, and her friend agreed. So they went to the local pet store to buy items to donate to a dog shelter. They were so excited to get the items and can't wait to make the donation. Giving away the money was more exciting than making it. We've told Sierra and Jackson the most important thing in life is to be kind and care for others. It seems like some of that messaging is sinking in. #prouddad
