Ignacio García León shared thisI’ll say it before, and I’ll say it again. 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁. That doesn’t mean that companies are going to be able to just bulldoze their way through it and have it replace most of their workforce. Look at Ford as a prime example of that. They rolled out 900 AI-powered cameras across its plants to catch defects "at the source." Leadership told investors AI was being deployed "across the entire industrial system." Sounds great in a board meeting, but in practice it failed. The reality is that AI is only as good as what you train it on, and Ford found that out the hard way. They let their most experienced engineers walk out the door before anyone used their knowledge to train the tools replacing them. So Ford brought more than 300 veteran engineers back (at great expense) to reprogram the AI and mentor the junior staff who never got that knowledge passed down. If it’s happening somewhere like Ford, you can bet good money it’s happening across thousands of other smaller organisations.

Ignacio García León shared thisAI-led companies 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄 headcount by 10% over 2 years. An analysis of 21,000 companies by Ramp’s economics team reveals that the AI adoption is actually INCREASING company headcount. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝟭𝟮%. As has been the case throughout history, every major tech shift produces more growth, employment, and production, with a painful but, most of the time, temporary displacement around the middle. It wouldn’t shock me if these numbers keep trending upward.

Ignacio García León shared thisAlex Karp has one of the most unhinged interview stories ever. The Palantir CEO was interviewing Louis Mosley, an Oxford graduate whose grandfather, Oswald Mosley, was the British fascist leader during World War II and once named "worst Briton of the twentieth century." As soon as Mosley sat down, Karp began reciting from memory one of Oswald's 1939 speeches demanding Britain seek peace with Nazi Germany. This went on for several minutes. When he was done, he did some tai chi moves and walked out without saying goodbye. Mosley ended up getting the job and now runs Palantir UK.

Ignacio García León shared thisFake jobs are becoming such a big problem that the government has had to step in. New York just passed a bill requiring employers to disclose if and when they actually intend to hire. It shouldn't take legislation to make job postings honest, but here we are. Ghost jobs are a symptom of a broken system. When hiring is based on inbound applications, companies have no accountability. Post a fake role, collect resumes, and ghost the applicants, with no consequences. The old school approaches of trying to maximise inbound candidates just doesn’t work, but people are still trying to force it. The new world relies on 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀. Smart companies will get around this fake job epidemic by becoming much more relationship focused with their hiring strategy. Think cultivating relationships with good recruiters, solid referral programs, etc.

Ignacio García León liked thisIgnacio García León liked thisI’m thrilled to share that Numeral has raised a $35M Series B, led by Mayfield, at a $350M valuation! Turns out, sales tax and VAT have gotten so complex that we need AI and millions of dollars in VC funding to make it simple again. This brings us to $57M in funding, including our $18 million Series A led by Benchmark Capital in March of this year. We are 1,057 days into building Numeral, and I’m humbled to say that we’ve processed over $5 billion in transaction volume, filed 150,000 sales tax returns for +2,000 paying customers, and achieved 3.5x year-over-year revenue growth. Numeral is the end-to-end platform for sales tax and VAT compliance. I couldn't be prouder of what we’ve accomplished… but there's still a lot left to build, many new customers to serve, and a heck of a lot more sales tax filings to, well, file. So what’s next? • 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: Growing internationally? Our in-house platform currently covers 60+ countries, and we are expanding to many more by the end of the year. • 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: As you may have noticed, we’ve launched several new integrations over the last few months, including with Orb, Sequence, Tabs, and others. Some exciting integrations to come! • 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Could Numeral be the most boring AI company? Our AI may not be the flashiest, but our automations mean you'll never have to log into a government portal or listen to hold music again. • 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺: We are currently hiring for multiple roles across our organization.
