Jesse Lesperance liked thisJesse Lesperance liked thisMCP vs API: The New AI Protocol You Need to Know About 2025 just introduced a new protocol to the API landscape: Model Context Protocol (MCP) 🤖 What is MCP? MCP is the new standardized protocol for how AI agents (Claude, GPT, etc.) communicate with services, databases, and data sources. Think of it this way: - Traditional APIs = for apps to talk to apps - MCP = for AI agents to talk to apps The Key Difference: Traditional API Security focuses on: - Authentication (who is calling?) - Authorization (what can they access?) - Rate limiting (how many requests?) - Schema validation (is the format correct?) MCP Security requires EVERYTHING above, PLUS: - Prompt injection prevention (can the user trick the agent?) - Tool validation (is the agent calling the right service?) - Data leakage prevention (is the agent exposing sensitive data?) - Intent verification (does the agent understand what it's doing?) Why MCP is a game-changer (and a risk): ✅ Benefits: - Standardized AI-to-service communication - Easier for developers to integrate AI - Consistent security patterns across tools ❌ Risks: - Most CISOs don't know what MCP is yet - Traditional WAF/WAAP can't protect MCP traffic - AI agents have different attack surfaces than apps - New vulnerabilities emerging weekly Real example: text User: "Show me customer data" Traditional API: Requires authentication header, validates permissions, returns filtered data ✅ MCP Agent: Might interpret prompt creatively, call multiple services, aggregate data in unexpected ways ❌ The uncomfortable truth: Your AI implementations are probably using MCP right now, and your security team isn't monitoring it. On paper, everything looks fine - updated policies, clean procedures, a score that feels safe. Then someone asks for proof, and the gaps show up immediately. Signatures are missing. Reviews were never logged. Controls marked as "implemented" don't have a single dated record behind them. None of it happened overnight. It happened because leadership trusted summaries instead of looking at the evidence themselves. CMMC exposes that separation very quickly. A significant achievement for Quantum eMotion ! "This production validation builds directly on Quantum eMotion's June 2025 quantum simulation study, conducted in collaboration with PINQ² using IBM's Qiskit framework, which evaluated the resistance of QRNG-enhanced cryptographic architectures against Grover-based quantum search attacks (ref: QeM pressrelease_PINK2-QeM_June). That study demonstrated that: - QRNG-generated entropy increases oracle complexity and circuit depth for quantum attackers - At real-world key sizes (e.g., 256-bit), quantum brute-force attacks remain computationally infeasible - Security margins scale favourably as entropy quality increases."
