Welcome back to #TheStateOfFlow 🌀 — tracking what's draining teams most and how the best ones break through. Part four: The infrastructure gap in AEC. The data is hard to ignore: → McKinsey found that construction projects using collaborative digital workflows are up to 45% more likely to finish on time. → Autodesk's State of the Industry reports over 70% of AEC firms have increased cloud tool adoption since 2020. The shift is clear in project outcomes. But adoption alone doesn't close the gap. The firms hitting deadlines are accessing files in real time, from anywhere, without the lag that makes remote collaboration a liability on large-scale builds. More cloud tools isn't the answer. It's infrastructure that works with the tech stack you already own. BIM models don't get lighter. Project teams don't get smaller. The infrastructure has to keep up. We have all been there—trapped in a loop of "Case Numbers" and scripted "I understand your frustration" lines while the actual problem remains untouched. Whether I was managing corporate cabin crews at 30,000 feet, restructuring nationwide trucking routes at Kraft, or—in my current role—advocating for patients waiting on critical medications, I’ve learned one thing: You cannot de-escalate a human being with an automated script. High-stakes communication isn’t about the "fix" in the system; it’s about the person on the other end of the line. My "No-Nonsense" 3-step rule for moving past the script: 1️⃣ Kill the "Policy-First" defense: Don’t lead with why the system failed or what the "standard procedure" is. Validate the person first. You can’t solve a problem for someone who feels like just another ticket number. Simply, they feel unheard. 2️⃣ Give them a clock, not just a case number: Uncertainty is the fuel for panic. Don’t just say "we’re looking into it." Tell them exactly what is happening next and give them a specific time for a follow-up. They need some sort of timeline. 3️⃣ Be the anchor: Don’t bounce a frustrated client through a labyrinth of departments. Own the communication until the resolution is reached. In a world of automated "no-reply" emails, be the person who actually replies. In my experience—from the flight deck to the remote office—when you stop hiding behind the tech and start leading as a person with empathy and in control with a clear path forward, the "unsolvable" problems usually start solving themselves. #CustomerExperience #Leadership #CustomerSupport How do you handle it when a company tries to "process" you instead of "helping" you? But after nearly a decade of managing high-volume, complex accounts from a remote office, I’ve learned it is entirely about what you must do. Whether I’m navigating highly regulated federal loan portfolios or coordinating sensitive, nationwide medical deliveries, the stakes are just as high as they would be in an onsite corporate environment. You cannot execute seamless corporate communications and patient advocacy across complex networks by just "logging on" and hoping for the best. Thriving and being successful in a fast-paced remote setting is a learned skill. Here are my three non-negotiables for high-level remote execution: 1️⃣ Silence is dangerous: In a physical office, silence usually means that you're focused. Remotely, silence can be perceived as absence. Proactive, high-level corporate communication is the only way to build trust across digital teams. Remember: Update before you are asked. 2️⃣ Create a 'Psychological Commute': You need a trigger to switch from "home" mode to "executive" mode. Even if my commute is only ten steps to my home office, I maintain a strict morning routine to signal to my brain that it’s time to execute. 3️⃣ Master the tech, but lead with empathy: Software systems (like Epic, SAP, or a proprietary CRM) run the logistics, but they don't solve the human panic. The screen is a barrier; it's your job to project warmth, authority, and compassion right through it. Remote work isn't a perk, it's an operational strategy. New companies, especially tech companies, adopt a “remote first” mandate to attract the best talent from around the globe. Over the last few days, I had countless conversations with strangers who became friends, strategized with partners, spent time getting to know people beyond the business, had the opportunity to step onto the pitch at FC Cincinnati, and even hit a few bombs at Great American Ball Park with David Mauer and Brett Wolf. But looking back, none of those moments stand out because of where they happened. They stand out because of who they happened with. This weekend was another great reminder that partnerships aren’t built on contracts, products, or quarterly goals. They’re built on relationships. The trust you earn in conversations, the laughs between meetings, and the genuine investment you make in other people. That’s the part of this role I’m most excited about. Grateful for everyone who took the time to connect this weekend, strengthen existing relationships, and start new ones. Rich Werhun liked thisRich Werhun liked thisTen years ago we set out to solve a specific problem: how to provide distributed teams instant, secure access to shared data without moving it. We built LucidLink for humans, end users collaborating with files: video editors finishing films across continents, engineers collaborating on CAD assemblies across manufacturing sites, architects needing shared access to BIM models, and enterprise teams working with large assets across hybrid infrastructure. The answer we arrived at, "don't move the data, connect to it where it lives", required capabilities that took a decade to get right. Global consistency. Zero-knowledge encryption. A unified namespace that works across nearly any infrastructure. Then something unexpected happened. Enterprises started connecting AI agents to their existing LucidLink filespaces. Not because we positioned it that way, but because the data was already there. And what emerged from that was an insight we hadn't originally designed for: the same infrastructure that solved distributed data access for humans turns out to be exactly what agents need. Persistent shared state. Consistent handoffs. Humans and agents working in the same namespace. Today, we're announcing the public beta of the LucidLink MCP server. It's the entry point for what we think is a meaningful role for LucidLink in how enterprises put agents into production -- not by moving their data into a new system, but by connecting agents to where the knowledge already lives. The best moments always revolve around our customers. We had several walk up to our booth lats week, unprompted, and say: "I don't know how we worked without this." The conversations with architects and IT admins confirmed what we're seeing across the industry: AEC firms are serious about AI adoption and automation. The roadmaps exist. The blockers are operational. They are blown away by what LucidLink can do for cost efficiency and productivity for their teams. When hundreds of people need to work on the same gigabyte-scale Revit models together, every delay is an opportunity cost for your client — and waiting on VPN connections and file syncs is time you can't bill back.
