Sven Gerjets shared thisWalked into our San Francisco office this morning and stopped in my tracks. Gap is relaunching its iconic 1990s fragrances this week. Dream, Grass, Heaven, Om. The team built this display in the lobby to celebrate, and it's genuinely beautiful. People still have 30-year-old bottles they save for special occasions. That's brand equity you can't architect. I spend most of my days thinking about platforms and AI. Mornings like this are a good reminder of what we're actually building for. Also pretty sure I'm going to smell like 1997 for the rest of the week. Gap Inc.

Sven Gerjets shared thisThe most important thing we're building at Gap Inc. isn't technology. It's a company that's learning how to work differently. Last week, our Global Technology team spent time with over a thousand store leaders, showing them the tools we're building to help them work smarter: next-generation Point-of-Sale, new reporting capabilities, and Bridgette, our virtual hiring assistant, ahead of peak hiring season. But the best part wasn't the demos. It was the conversation. Store leaders weren't asking us to bring them robots. They were asking how technology could give them more time with customers, more visibility into their business, and less friction in their day. That's exactly the problem we're trying to solve. Over the past year, we've been building momentum across connected commerce, AI-powered experiences, smarter inventory, and modern store technology. None of it matters if it doesn't make the associate's job better. What I'm most optimistic about isn't the tech roadmap. It's the curiosity and openness I keep seeing from our teams. Sven Gerjets shared thisToday we hosted a readout as part of our AI Learning Series, with Alexia Cambon and Alex Farach from Microsoft sharing results from a study we ran together last November. 388 Gap Inc. employees volunteered to spend a day as research participants testing how AI adoption actually works. I want to thank every one of them! 👏 Two findings stuck with me. First, mindset beats mandate. Teams forced into a rigid AI workflow did worse than teams left to figure it out themselves, more friction, lower quality, more incomplete work. But when we simply reframed AI as a thought partner instead of a tool, people produced meaningfully better work with the exact same access. Second, and this made me laugh, there is such a thing as an AI hangover. People who struggled through a forced workflow without the mindset shift carried that frustration into their next task and it measurably lowered how they felt about AI afterward. Throughout the summer, our interns have stepped beyond their day-to-day work to experience our business in new ways, from store visits and conversations with leaders to community service and, soon, presenting their capstone projects. This visit left me feeling inspired and even more optimistic about where our brand is headed. The vision, the energy, and the partnership between our stores and our corporate teams made it clear that there are exciting things ahead. I'm energized for the back half of the year and proud to be part of this next chapter. What makes Banana Republic Factory so special is the connection between our field teams and our business partners. We truly are one team, and I think this visit was a great reflection of what we can accomplish together. I'm especially proud of my Assistant Manager, Juan Sanchez, who led Donald through our shops with authenticity, confidence, and incredible knowledge. Watching Juan explain our visual presentation, merchandising decisions, and customer experience was a proud leadership moment for me. More than 400 runners and supporters joined us to recover, refuel, and celebrate everything they had accomplished. Seeing our community come together in support of one another—from the sidelines to Mile 27— was a powerful reminder that movement is even more meaningful when it’s shared.
