Amazon today announced its first commercial aviation client for in-flight connectivity: JetBlue. The airline will be the first to offer Amazon Project Kuiper’s satellite internet service to its passengers. In addition, Amazon has signed an agreement with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus Aircraft to integrate Project Kuiper’s connectivity solution into Airbus’ aircraft catalog, broadening potential adoption across the aviation sector. As highlighted in the NCAT white paper (link below), Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations are defined by a dual characteristic: high frequency reuse and constrained addressability. This makes it crucial for LEO network operators to target multiple satcom verticals across many regions early, often even before full deployment, in order to optimize the supply-demand balance of their systems. If you're an NCAT user interested in modeling a future scenario where all JetBlue routes are served by Amazon’s Kuiper constellation (with over 3,000 LEO satellites), simply select JetBlue’s IATA code (B6) in the In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) dropdown menu and configure your preferred service plan within the Mobility Tool.
