Robert Pattinson Expresses Concerns About Portraying 'Freak' Characters
Robert Pattinson may have a range in his portfolio, but lately, he has been hopping from one “freak” character to another. Now, as he transitions to a more “normal” role, he alluded that the shift wasn’t the easy one.
Speaking to Icon Magazine, Pattinson opened up about the struggles. He said, “At one point, I really wanted to play some normal guys. And it’s actually kind of difficult to play a normal person when you’re used to playing freaks and stuff.”
He seems to be referring to his upcoming film Die My Love, where he takes on the playful role of Jackson. The film follows Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Grace, and Pattinson’s Jackson, a couple who move to a secluded home to raise their child. While the trailer seems cheerful and feral from the outside, Grace is gradually succumbing to dark madness, leaving the more stable Jackson helpless.
MUBI
This isn’t the first time Pattinson has made the headlines about the complexity of playing unusual roles. Back in March, speaking to GQ, he said of Jennifer Lawrence and Lynne Ramsay, “They just find it so easy, and they're like 'Just dance, it's just music playing, just dance.'. And I'm like, 'I'm telling you, I'm going to have a mental breakdown when this happens. We need to either choreograph it or cut it.' And they're like, 'Just dance, stop being a freak.'"
You can catch Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film Die My Love in theaters on November 7, 2025.
