    Brighten up! ☀️ NGC 6814, pictured here by Hubble, is classified as a "Seyfert" galaxy. That means its bright center is extremely active, and can emit strong bursts of radiation: go.nasa.gov/3RdXjyq
    A spiral galaxy fills the image. Its yellow core is surrounded by large spiraling arms full of bright blue stars and dark brown lanes of dust. Several foreground stars shine throughout with diffraction spikes.

    Though it has mainly looked for distant cosmic explosions, our Swift observatory has also studied solar system objects! In 2010, Swift teamed up with @NASAHubble to catch the remnants of an asteroid smash-up just weeks after the collision. go.nasa.gov/4wi8KE6

    The Chandelier Cluster ✨🌟 Every "lightbulb" in this cosmic chandelier is actually an individual star, located about 27,000 light-years away. This is a globular star cluster, which means it's a tightly packed group of stars held together by gravity: go.nasa.gov/4f4OkIX
    A globular cluster. It holds many thousands of bright stars, tightly packed in the center and spread out in its outer regions, but filling the entire view. The stars are colored either orange or bright blue, with the blue stars mainly concentrated in the center. Orange stars are located mainly around the edge and vary in size from small dots to glowing stars with four points, based on their position in the foreground or background of the cluster.

    It's a little dusty over at MCG+08-11-002. This odd-looking galaxy sports a spectacular band of dark dust across its center, which is likely the aftermath of an earlier collision of two separate galaxies. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/4ev2jHT

    Rubin + Hubble = 🤩🌌 Hubble recently celebrated 36 years in space with a detailed look into the Trifid Nebula, a star-forming region about 5,000 light-years away, seen in this “inset” image: go.nasa.gov/4eCozOP

At left, an irregular mostly opaque circle takes up the majority of the view. The circle has a bright pink interior crossed with a few dark, jagged dust lanes. A significant region around that appears blue. The edges have shades of orange and brown, with the star-filled black background of space peeking through. Hubble’s close-up is outlined just below center to the left. The top left is bright blue. Brown and amber colors run from top right through the center in irregular, overlapping lines to the bottom-center. At bottom right, the view is almost black. Tiny, amber-colored stars appear throughout the scene. Toward the left there is a prominent brown shape that looks like a head with two horns.

    Here on Earth, @VRubinObs just marked one year in operation! Rubin’s wider view shows the cosmic context of the nebula, stretching 56 light-years across, while this Hubble “close-up” view spans four light-years: showing how teamwork makes astronomy better (and beautiful)!

    Webb’s new view of M82, added to archival data from @NASAHubble, is giving us a more complete picture of this starburst galaxy. science.nasa.gov/missions/webb/…
    Composite image of edge-on spiral starburst galaxy Messier 82 as observed by NASA's James Webb and Hubble space telescopes. Hourglass-shaped plumes of gas are shooting outward from above and below a bright blue-white, disk-shaped center. The plumes are yellow near the galaxy’s bright center, denoting areas of ionized hydrogen gas as observed by Hubble, and gradually become redder as you move farther away. Messier 82 is set against the black background of space, which has many distant galaxies that appear as small white and orange spirals, ovals, and points of light. Toward the right of Messier 82 is a blue-white star with eight-pointed diffraction spikes that are characteristic of Webb.

    It's a galactic group hang! Called CL0016+1609, this image shows two clusters of galaxies merging together, drawn in by gravity. Hubble's data sheds light on the distribution of dark matter – the invisible "scaffolding" of our universe: go.nasa.gov/4euZ2Hn
    Several massive elliptical galaxies appear to sit in a nearly horizontal line across the center of the image. Numerous spiral, lenticular, and smaller elliptical galaxies dot the space surrounding the giant ellipticals.

    Webb teamed up with @NASAHubble to examine a relic from our galaxy’s formation. This object might look like a globular cluster of stars, but is actually something much odder and rarer - a “bulge fossil fragment.” science.nasa.gov/missions/webb/…
    A dramatically crowded starfield that looks like a just-shaken snow globe. The black background of space, which is clearer at the edges, is covered by thousands of tiny white, orange, and blue points of light, which are stars. The stars are most concentrated in the center, forming a roughly circular orb, and sparser at the edges of the image. Several larger orange stars, particularly those largest near the edges of the frame, have prominent diffraction spikes.
