Karnataka hostel food poisoning: Principal, warden suspended
Kalaburagi, Karnataka: In the wake of the incident in which students of Morarji Desai Minority Hostel in Dandoti village of Chittapur taluk of the district fell ill after consuming food, the school's principal Nazima Begum and warden Bhimbai have been suspended.
On Thursday night, 50 children of the school fell ill after eating dinner, and about 39 of them were admitted to Chittapur Taluka Hospital, Kalaburagi's GIMS Hospital. Nazima Begum and Bhimbai have been suspended on the basis of dereliction of duty. District Minority Welfare Officer Sangamesh said.
The Deputy Commissioner, who visited the hospital ward, took information from the doctors about the health condition of the students and directed that necessary treatment and medicines be provided to all students adequately without any shortage.

CBI raids in Rs 133.52 crore SBI loan fraud case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), today has conducted searches at multiple premises linked to the Directors of a Private Company in Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Cochin (Kerala).
The CBI registered the instant case on 09.07.2026 on the complaint of State Bank of India, SAM Branch, Mumbai, against the Directors of a private company, unknown public servants and unknown private persons for causing an alleged wrongful loss of approximately Rs.133.52 Crore to the complainant bank.
It was alleged that the accused persons entered into a criminal conspiracy, obtained higher Credit facilities from SBI by allegedly submitting false financial information. Further accused persons diverted / siphoned off the bank funds for other purpose for which it was not sanctioned causing loss to the bank.
During the searches, incriminating details relevant to the investigation for committal of fraud were recovered. Investigation is continuing to ascertain the full extent of the conspiracy, identify the role of all involved persons, including public servants and private individuals, and trace the end-use of the loan funds.

Delhi HC sentences actor Rajpal Yadav to three months jail in seven complains in cheque bounce cases
Actor Rajpal Yadav was sentenced to three months in jail by the Delhi High Court on Friday in seven cheque bounce cases linked to the non-payment of loans worth around ₹9 crore, PTI reported.
The court also directed Yadav to pay over ₹1 crore to the complainant in each case, with any amount already paid to be adjusted against the total dues.
The ruling comes months after the actor said he had suffered losses of nearly ₹17 crore while producing a film. Addressing the cheque bounce cases earlier, Yadav had maintained that he was not jailed because he lacked money, but said the financial losses incurred during the film's production had led to the situation.

Spain wildfire: Death toll rises to 12
According to AFP, a wildfire that ripped through a hamlet in southern Spain killed 12 people, as a heatwave stifled swathes of the country.
Around 150 firefighters backed by five fire trucks battled the blaze in Spain which broke out as temperatures neared 40C.
Authorities raised the death toll to 12 "after the confirmation of six more deaths in the area of the fire," the regional government of Andalusia said in a statement.
