Vikas Bansal reposted thisVikas Bansal reposted thisOur quarterly results for April to June are now out. Our PAT grew 94.3% year-on-year, as operating leverage played out across all the cost buckets, leading to a PAT margin of 47.5%. Groww continues to be India's #1 platform for stocks and mutual funds. In Commodity Derivatives, we have scaled to 28.6% retail market share in Notional ADTO across MCX & NSE. Our engineers have seen significant leverage using AI which has improved our product shipping velocity. We continued to build newer offerings across the platform, including MF Prime, bonds, W, and consumer credit. Loans Against Securities anchored growth in consumer credit, making up over a third of our on-book disbursements. Groww AMC also continued to scale, with AUM growing around 140% over the last year. We have also received SEBI and CCI approval for the strategic investment by State Street Global Advisors into Groww AMC.

Vikas Bansal reposted thisVikas Bansal reposted thisWe've seen some confusion and some misinformation about Groww's mutual fund offering. So let us be unambiguous. Direct mutual funds are, and will remain, the heart of Groww. Over 1 crore investors have built more than ₹1.9 lakh crore of mutual fund investments on our platform, making Groww the largest mutual fund platform in the country. For every DIY investor, Groww stays exactly what it has always been: direct, zero-commission, and free. Forever. We will keep shipping new features for direct MF investors. MF Prime is not a shift. It is an addition - a fully opt-in product for a different cohort: investors who want research-backed guidance on what to buy, hold, exit, and rebalance. Many of these are people who wanted to invest through Groww but held back because they needed help. Prime finally brings them in. If you are a DIY customer on Groww today, nothing changes for you. Not the plans, not the pricing, not the experience. Any commentary claiming Groww has changed its approach to mutual fund investing is simply incorrect. Some investors want to do it themselves. Some want guidance. We're proud to serve both - and to let the customer, not the platform, decide. Disclaimer: Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully.

Vikas Bansal posted thisOver the last 15 years, I have successfully hired over 100 Product Managers and conducted more than 1000 interviews. Each hire in Product is crucial, as these individuals make significant decisions daily. Therefore, this role is of utmost importance, and I never delegate this responsibility. Given our extensive work with AI, I decided to explore its potential in the hiring process. My former colleague, Niraj Kothawade, developed an effective product for conducting first-round screenings using AI. Having collaborated on hiring at Flipkart, he understood the standards we expect for PM candidates in PS/PT rounds. Pavan Kashyap further refined this tool to meet our specific needs at Groww. We have been utilizing MasterPrep AI for the past few months, and it has proven to be highly effective in assessing candidates. It probes for reasoning, identifies structural gaps in candidates' thinking, and provides detailed feedback for hiring managers to determine next steps. What sets MasterPrep AI apart is its ability to maintain high standards. Strong candidates are clearly identified, while weak responses do not pass based solely on articulation. Great product Niraj Kothawade

Vikas Bansal shared thisThere’s always a lot happening in the markets, and it’s hard to keep track of everything on your own. That’s why we’ve built in-house CRM systems at Groww - to notify you about important events that matter to you. Today, most of the notifications you see on the Groww app are personalised. But, sometimes our ML models get your interests wrong. And sometimes, you simply don’t want notifications from certain products to keep your feed clean. That’s where Notification Management comes in. You can now go granular and choose: - which products you want notifications for - and even the type of notifications you want within each product. Just one more step towards giving you full control over what reaches you and what doesn’t.Vikas Bansal shared thisFocused notifications for a focused you With Groww’s notification management, you now get updates only on what matters most: - Stock updates - IPO alerts - F&O updates - Market signals Simply head to Settings and tap 'Manage Notifications' to select what you want to stay informed about. Vikas Bansal reacted on thisVikas Bansal reacted on thisThank you, Instamart! When I transitioned from Flipkart to Instamart, the quick-commerce industry was obsessed with one thing: growth at all costs. The prevailing narrative was that rapid delivery was a cash burning machine, and the market was highly skeptical that unit economics could ever work in a hyper competitive space. My mandate was to prove that assumption wrong. Today, as I announce my decision to turn a page and think about the next stage, I am incredibly proud to say we delivered exactly what we set out to build. Over the last few years, we didn’t just scale Instamart; we fundamentally re-designed how quick commerce operates. By applying deep e-commerce operational rigor to the instant delivery model, we ignored the industry noise and focused entirely on the fundamentals: optimizing the supply chain, making assortment the king, building a highly efficient dark-store network, and obsessing over unit economics. The result? We took a fiercely complex logistical challenge and turned it into a sustainable, highly optimized engine. We successfully charted the path to profitability in a sector where most believed it was impossible for incumbents, all while handling unprecedented daily order volumes. Building the foundation for this kind of sustainable hyper-growth is the ultimate "zero-to-one" challenge, and with that infrastructure now rock-solid and the business operating from a position of immense financial strength, my specific mandate is complete. It is the perfect time to hand the reins over to a leader who will drive the next phase of growth and optimization. A massive thank you to Sriharsha M. Majety for trusting me with this contrarian mandate, and to the brilliant, relentless team on the ground who made the impossible happen. I am looking forward to a short break to spend some long-overdue time with my family, catch my breath, and decide what complex problem I want to solve next. Onward!

Vikas Bansal reacted on thisVikas Bansal reacted on thisI did my first corporate internship this summer, and honestly, I didnt expect to enjoy it as much as I did. 7 weeks at Groww, India’s leading stockbroking platform, was a magnificent experience. Time seemed to fly by as I worked on research notes, explored the fintech ecosystem, and supported portfolio-related activities. I researched emerging fintech companies and AI startups focused on automating financial processes, analyzed their financials, and maintained relevant data records. I also tracked key developments across the fintech industry and helped compile news updates and insights that were shared with founders to keep them informed about the rapidly evolving ecosystem. What made this experience even more memorable was the team I got to work with. I learned that while work is important, enjoying the process and having fun along the way matters just as much. A big thank you to my mentor, Shiv Tallam, who showed me the passion that one should bring to their work, and my colleague, Priya Harwani, who was more like a friend throughout the internship who supported and guided me. Working under them, I felt like everyday was another learning opportunity for me. Grateful for this opportunity and excited for what lies ahead!

Vikas Bansal reacted on thisVikas Bansal reacted on thisI'm excited to announce an ESOP buyback for Scapians today. When we started Scapia in 2022, we were trying to build something that didn't really exist - a new category at the intersection of travel and financial services. There was no playbook to follow. Over the last few years, we've built products, served a growing base of travellers, and crossed milestones that once felt very far away. We've come a long way, and there's so much more to do. We're just getting started. I'm grateful that we've reached a stage where we can do this. This buyback is our way of recognising the people whose ownership, ambition and belief have helped shape Scapia so far. I've always wanted Scapia to be a place where people are encouraged to take the right risks, think like owners, and build with conviction. I hope this is the first of many such moments as we continue to grow. Thank you to every Scapian for the ownership, ambition and care you bring to Scapia every day. I'm excited for everything we're going to build together.

Vikas Bansal liked thisVikas Bansal liked thisI like to think of donating clothes as giving them a second life. Sometimes it does. But the journey is far more complicated than simply moving from one wardrobe to another. When clothes are donated to charities such as Goodwill Industries International or Oxfam, they are first sorted by condition. Garments that are damaged, stained, or unsuitable for resale are separated for other routes instead. From there, several outcomes are possible. Some pieces are sold in bulk to second-hand markets overseas, extending their usable life. Others are downcycled into industrial cleaning cloths, insulation, or furniture stuffing. Only a very small proportion is recycled into new textiles, largely because modern garments often blend fibres such as cotton, polyester, and elastane, making them difficult to separate. The story doesn't always end positively. Research by The Or Foundation has highlighted the enormous volumes of second-hand clothing arriving at markets such as Kantamanto in Ghana. While many garments are successfully resold, a significant share cannot be sold and ultimately becomes waste, placing pressure on local waste management systems and communities. Donating clothes is still far better than sending them straight to landfill, but donation is not a magic solution. The most sustainable garment is one that stays in use for as long as possible. Sustainability doesn't begin at the donation bin; it begins with the choices we make before letting our clothes go.

Vikas Bansal liked thisVikas Bansal liked thisWhatsApp may be the statistically best app we've ever made. It's a product manager's dream with its unparalleled addictiveness (DAU / MAU) of 87% and stickiness (M1 retention) of 86%, both #1 in the world while having the #1 most monthly active users for any non preinstalled app of 2.7B users. Here are the top 25 most used apps in the world by MAU on both these metrics. Some surprising observations: — There are now 15 1B+ user apps in the world, 8 by Google, 4 by Meta. — The 3 that aren't are TikTok, Telegram (!) and ChatGPT — Telegram has more users than Spotify, Pinterest, Netflix, Amazon, Snap! — ChatGPT's one month retention is #5 after WA, Instagram, Chrome and Youtube. 2yrs ago, it was been #20 by M1 retention — Shopee, a shopping app in southeast Asia, is huge and retains users better than Amazon! Useful way to break down consumer businesses especially within certain categories (X vs Reddit vs Threads is a good one). It's shocking how few new apps have been able to break through in the past 10yrs.

Vikas Bansal liked thisVikas Bansal liked thisPeople are surprised with Kunal Shah’s move to Whatsapp as CEO & it's understandable. That’s a universe crossover from Indian Startups to Bay Area elite leadership that simply never happened. Or never used to. But look at the reality today, if you have to hire a leader for Whatsapp, then either you will grow the person internally who has a proven track record or go out and hire the best consumer leader anywhere across the world. It’s like hiring the best opening batter for your IPL cricket team. You want a Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or Travis Head, the nationality doesn’t really matter. There are actually very few leaders across the world who can claim to grow a pure play consumer app without any physical operations from 0 to millions of users. Even fewer in the last decade and those are likely happily running their startups. Meta is lucky to have found Kunal at a juncture when CRED is profitable and charting out its next decadal journey. Kunal recognizes the opportunity of leading a large consumer portfolio like Whatsapp, I mean we all believe that the product has the potential to do so much more than where it is today. It’s great for Meta and Kunal but this also opens the door for a lot of Indian founders to think of running large portfolio bets in Silicon Valley in their second innings. To Valley’s credit, they have always been open to outsiders but the outsiders had to always earn their stripes, growing through the ranks or founding and scaling companies from scratch in the US. While we’ll see Indian startups like Zomato and Groww grow into category-defining tech giants, we’ll also see more founders and execs from large Indian startups step into leadership roles at iconic global tech companies many of us admire.

Tata Neu apparently redid their home page for the umpteenth time. It still loads slower than a tortoise though 😉. And the super app has quietly started its pivot into a finance app, though it currently has finance + Croma + bigbasket. Once they both independently raise funds, I’m speculating that the Neu would become pure play finance, which it should have been originally. When I played a small part of the Neu journey, most of us always contemplated what’s the app doing, who is our customer, what’s our audience demographic etc. I guess the new leaders are having a little bit more clarity of thought on what the vision should be.

India has abundant expertise across every domain - logistics operators, subject matter experts, local service providers, etc. What's scarce isn't capability. It's the systems that coordinate this capability at scale. Most companies see this fragmentation and default to vertical integration: build everything in-house, own all capabilities, control every aspect of delivery. This works if you have unlimited capital and time. Most companies have neither. But there's an alternative approach that we've noticed two of our portcos execute remarkably well, in completely different industries - 1. When Meesho looked at India's logistics, and they saw thousands of fragmented local operators. Instead of building warehouses and delivery fleets, they built Valmo - an orchestration platform coordinating existing partners. Individual pilots with smartphones earn sustainable incomes, small hub operators build viable businesses, and Meesho gets coverage across 15,000+ pin codes at 12% lower cost than traditional third-party-logistics. 2. Entri saw similar fragmentation in education. India has abundant teaching expertise already running offline/online programs. Entri partners with them for content while owning demand generation, platform infra, quality monitoring, and placements. This allows them to launch new categories in weeks and scale across languages without the capital intensity of building in-house teams for every vertical. If I had to pull a common thread, it's that in fragmented markets like India, the orchestration layer often matters more than asset ownership. Coordinate what exists rather than rebuilding from scratch.

Most brands are considering to launch an app But few know if it’s 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. In our latest "Dilse Omni talks" podcast, I asked Abhijeet Singh ( cofounder Appbrew : Why do companies hesitate to build apps? “They aren’t skeptical - but dont know how to measure success.” And that’s where most go wrong. At top D2C brands with App benchmarks 👇 • Apps drive 50%+ of total D2C sales • Deliver 2-3x better conversion rates • Give 30-40% higher AOV • Achieve 2x higher retention • And boost LTV by 2-3x Yet many brands still don’t track these numbers. Because having an app is easy. But having a successful app needs measurement. Check out the full episode link in comments 👇 & learn how to make your app your biggest growth driver.
