I have a vague memory of a Talmud discussion in which someone tried to use a reference from Devarim to elucidate a mitzvah in one of the earlier 4 books but I believe the conclusion was you cannot make a connection 'hekesh' between Devarim (mishneh torah) and the other books since it was written in Moshe's words. I can't find a source for this discussion or something similar to it?

I was wrong, the reference was about an opinion that distinguished Devarim from the other books in regards to the permission to make homiletic connections (smoochim).
