It's a very normal and cool thing to do, buying a company and loading it with debt, putting its assets into shell companies in the Cayman Islands, and then declaring bankruptcy. Something we all normally do and enjoy, and in no way find ferociously awful.

Today's de facto pardon of Flynn reminds us that a big part of what will be on the ballot in November is opening books. Set aside whether bad acts might be prosecuted, a new admin cld and really must open the books. The bad acting under wraps is mindboggling in its scale.

As long as SF continues progress reducing the spread of Covid-19, we anticipate allowing some businesses to resume operations with storefront pickup as soon as May 18th. Retailers like bookstores, florists, & music stores will be the first allowed to operate storefront pickup.

YIMBYs in California, through 's groundbreaking law SB 35, just secured over 1000+ low-income homes in Cupertino. Home of Apple, among the top wealthiest zipcodes in the U.S., whose residents against the project complained that poor people were incompatible with them

me: users are more likely to fall prey to phishing & other cyber scams during COVID-19 because they're stressed & distracted also me: *accidentally buys fake cream cheese without reading the fine print while anxiously navigating around other people in the grocery store*

housing (along with health care) is perhaps the most dramatic example of how our society is structured against any kind of dynamism and change for the benefit of incumbent owners of property and capital

If you want to know why housing in California is so expensive: it took 3 additional years of acrimonious and expensive litigation to get this project approved after *the legislature passed a law specifically designed to get projects like this approved*

Young people, I want you to know there was a time 19 years ago when Americans were so sad when 3000 people died in one day we all cried for weeks.

"Neighborhood character" is like bizarro socialism for the affluent. Claiming a public interest in privately held buildings, but not to use them to house the homeless or any real need like that, just as scenery.

People who conflate landlords and developers should be forced to spend a week reading a small "real estate investor" Facebook group and a week reading small developer Facebook group. The content is seriously night and day. (1/3)

Must-read thread! The grid operator for much of the Midwest is acknowledging (begrudgingly, but fine) that utilities systematically run coal plants at a loss, costing customers big. Millions of Americans are struggling to pay their bills. PUCs have to step up and stop this.
