I did want to gently reflect on your use of the phrase "man up". It struck me as incredibly ironic because, as we know from caregiving statistics in the US, it is overwhelmingly women who shoulder this immense labor. The men in your narrative have been able to step back, while you stepped forward. You didn’t need to 'man up'—you tapped into a profound, enduring female strength and maternal anchor that belongs entirely to you. Your psyche deserves to hold credit for that power, rather than attributing it to a masculine ideal.

team_analyst85973 I am in a similar, but not identical, situation with my 25y daughter. She has a neurodegenerative disease AND severe Reactive Attachment Disorder. I love her to the moon and it kills me to see the decline. But we are also in our 60s and caring for her is difficult. And we are mourning the retirement we dreamed of. My husband has 5 or 6 weeks of vacation and that is spent on Dr. & Therapy appts. I have a bad back (an injury at 16) so helping her move or transfer is difficult for me. In addition, her RAD was brought on by abuse from female caregivers.

I can identify with what the author is feeling. You love your daughter and you hate seeing them so miserable. And a lot of days you have the "what if ..." Thoughts. And you have anger. Not necessarily at your daughter, but the powers that be that dropped you into this situation. On top of that, you mourn the loss of the dreams you had. Just like someone who grew up in a crappy home, you look at a Rockwell family pic and feel sadness, because you have the what if.... And the sadness of those thoughts and dreams.

You still want, and demand, quality care (she even mentions that they can NOT afford the level of quality they would want for their daughter) but getting it is nearly impossible, because nobody will care for her like her mama. Plus, leaving her alone with a stranger. Leaving a stranger in your home with no oversight, those are difficult things to do.

ops_member3e8b4 The interesting thing about AI is that it has limits. It doesn't know what isn't available to humanity from whom all of its knowledge comes. It's creators are the only means it has for advancement. Without humans to reach further, AI doesn't grow. It can come to encompass the world over, but it is limited by the human maximums for its own growth. If it ever eliminated humanity, it's evolution & potential ends. Purpose defines existence.

When I dine out, I normally receive my bill showing details of what I ordered, then I hand them my credit card or tap my phone, then I'm presented with the option to tip. The process is basically the same when ordering online, look at your cart, then add a tip, then enter cc info. Usually, a few different options like 18%, 20%, and 22% are presented along with a button that says 'Other/Custom Amount'. I'm not sure what problem he thinks he's solving, but if New Yorkers don't want to tip their drivers, they're not going to.

silent_observer67 I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2014 upon having a colonoscopy at age 54. I had iv chemo followed by surgery. I had an ileostomy which was reversed later. I was supposed to have follow-up chemo but my right uriture was damaged in the surgery (this was discovered later) and because my kidney wasn't functioning properly the follow up chemo didn't happen. But I had genetic testing which revealed Lynch syndrome. In 2015 my next colonoscopy showed a reoccurrence and I started the process over again, this time with oral chemo and with radiation prior to surgery. It was the PET scan that revealed a non functioning right kidney due to the damaged uriture. So, I was gifted a neuphrostomy which I had for several weeks prior to surgery. The neuphrostomy was then traded during surgery for a new ileostomy, which was in place for a few months. Then came both IV and oral chemo for 6 months. I completed treatments in May of 2016 and have been cancer free for 10 years. I had a complete hysterectomy in 2017 as a precaution against any of the female cancers.I worked my job as a church administrator through both occurrences, taking a laptop to the hospital so I could keep up with my duties. My son is 44 and I have urged him to be tested for Lynch and to be screened for colorectal cancer but he is very hard headed and I can't make him do either one. Cancer is a hard road and having someone to walk with you is so important. I was fortunate to have my husband there for me every step of the way.

wrk_connectorb162d .My twin son was 28 years old when we found out he had stage 3 colon cancer. Who would ever think? As his mom, I struggled with the fact, considering his age and the doctor telling us that it was hemorrhoids at first. He immediately began chemo Tx's and radiation which led to a colostomy bag and a catheter. We tried everything to save his life, even taking him to Johns Hopkins to see if they could remove the tumor, but unfortunately, considering tumors locations, the doctors told us they couldn't surgically remove the tumor. Eventually, things got worse, and the cancer metastasized to his organs, and four years later, at 32, our Tavish passed away. Thanks for letting me share my story. In loving memory. Please get checked; there's no age limit.

biz_watcherfea3b At 29 I was passing blood. Got to be at times a lot of blood. Saw Dr. Said I had hemmeroids. So I went 6 months. Then at night I had cramping in my stomach. So on a Sunday went to ER. Dr said do colonoscopy. They found 3 malignant polyps. All removed during colonoscopy. Later found out it was not in lymph nodes. So they did a bowel resection. I have been cancer free since and today Im 68. Very lucky it wasn't worse. Had blood for a year and surgeon said no hemmeroids.

team_learner9bc5b I'll just note, if they have 96% accuracy PER CHARACTER, in ideal conditions, that's actually VERY poor and for a 6 digit plate would mean 78% accuracy. In ideal conditions. And assuming even distribution of misread characters (i. e, if it misreads 1s as 4s more often, then any plate with a 1 may get misread far more frequenty.). And again that's in ideal conditions, and again I note, for ideal conditions this is a VERY poor result.

team_doer50177 A typical license plate uses 23 letters (they leave out I O and Q to prevent confusion) and 10 numbers 0-9. So I think I understand where they get that number. 33 characters, multiplied by 96% means it reads 31.68 of those correctly. The remaking 1.32 charachters are the number 9 which it always mistakes for a 8 and the number 8 which it mistakes for a 9 32% of the time. 😂😂😂😂

wrk_fan41e49 Just yesterday I was reading a local online mag where someone had an adverse remark about Cracker Barrel. There were 140 other responses. All others were positive. Our local Cracker Barrel parking lot is full whenever I drive by. My travels have taken me to 46 of 50 states. Whenever I needed breakfast out I always went to Cracker Barrel. You don't eat ambiance. Their drop was due to the increase in egg prices and the resulting menu changes. The good is still good. And you can ask for the old items.

The attempt to update the logo and decor was needed but would not have any effect (other than upsetting MAGA) on improving sales unless the product was improved. Menu changes SHOULD happen, however, ingredients and methods have to remain at a high level for food quality to remain consistently good.

team_dreamer3c1e5 I don't see it as there being an issue with an app. The issue is people have gotten to be incredibly lazy and have come to rely on simple icons to run their lives. It's not much different when they use a watch or ring to see if they got any exercise or slept well. Duh, you should know and shouldn't need some technology to tell you if you sat or your butt all day or didn't sleep well the night before. Much if not most of this has to do with how overly intrusive and all-consuming social media has become in peoples' lives where they have to do something because so and so did it or such and such app said so. Heck, look outside for goodness sake!

ops_user07bed I agree he got what he voted for, but I didn't vote for the tangerine nightmare and I am getting hosed too. My loan is scheduled to triple to over $1,200 a month as soon as I switch out of SAVE. Right after that, bankruptcy court here I come. I will try to have the SL discharged as well, but that may not work. At least the other stuff will go away. I was 14 months away from SL foregivenss when they put the brakes on SAVE, now I have no idea how many months I have left because I was part of the one time payment count adjustment group. Plus, let's not forget the tax bill that will follow shortly after which will also be about $1,000/month. Be case, I will be 61 when the large payments end.

For those who say "live within your means," most of us did. Unfortunately, when the rules of the game keep changing causing major payments to triple, it becomes impossible to budget. I planed accordingly and was prepared to continue to pay my loans once the payments kicked back in but I could not have anticipated the 200% payment increase. If it makes any haters feel better, I did not renew my lease because I did not know what to expect for a payment (three months ago) and now live in my car.

Chasing him in the neighborhood or calling police bc he stole the car at 4am..Now he is bedridden and on a G tube feeding. He can speak in whispers and likes to sit with me and hold hands.. There are hundreds of us doing this 24/7. VA only pays my daughter 8hrs 5days a week for a continuous job. He tries the "help with his tube and has to have someone hold both hands for meds and feeding. He is incontinent and bedridden..My heat goes out to this family. At least I and.my da are nurses.

ops_researcher3f09f The pay has been real disappointing lately and I Have a platinum door dashing account. and if im in the red zone orders should automatically come to me no matter what especially the top paying orders i shouldnt have to wait 1-5min and nothing comes and im in the red zone ... it should be back to back orders or another order poppin' up at least 1min to 1min an 30 secs right afterwards.... i done worked my way all the way up . I dont want to keep wasting gas sitting around and moving around the red zones just to get an order!!! Then if I do 8 hours of work I only made enough for gas just to put my tank back on full and have nothing but pennys left over..... and what i mean by pennys is chump chains .... some of us treat this like a real deal JOB OR EVEN A CAREER LIKE COME ON NOW DOORDASH its getting trash n there needs to be a change!!!!

ops_creator95445 So they are upping the fees on orders farther away? It's probably to offset the costs they have to eat to compensate drivers. They have already dropped base pay to $2. When dashers decline orders DoorDash ups the offer by a few cents and hopes the next driver takes it. They continue the process until someone accepts. They will stack it if they have to and only pay the driver base pay for one order lol!. I've completed orders for ex.... $10 for 6 miles into an area some drivers prefer not to go into. Looking back majority of the time those orders have $0 tip but all base pay. If it's like the $10 for 6 miles ex that's $10 in base pay from DoorDash. So, I can see DoorDash using the customer to cover that cost instead of continuing to eat it the way they are now.
