Expert Take

Features

Rocket Lawyer is more of a legal advice and assistance platform rather than strictly a business formation service, so you won’t be able to pay a one-time fee to form your LLC. Instead, it offers two subscription plans, Rocket Legal or Rocket Legal+. You get pretty much the same functionality with each: access to legal and tax help, trademarks, registered agent services and business registration. The benefit of Rocket Legal+ is that you get a reduced price on its add-on services. For example, registered agent service costs $124.99, rather than $249.99.

We recommend Rocket Lawyer for businesses that want or need a primarily legal platform with access to advice and a wide range of legal documents. It caters to multiple areas, such as business contracts, real estate and family matters, all customizable and protected with Document Defense.

Pricing

Rocket Lawyer is fairly middle of the road when it comes to pricing, but whether it offers value depends on your requirements as a business. The $239.88 annual subscription price for Rocket Legal+ gives you free business registration (excluding state fees—$100 in Georgia) and half off of its “Pro Services,” which include retaining a legal pro, tax preparation and filing, trademark registration and a registered agent.

If you pay monthly instead ($39.99 per month) for the Rocket Legal subscription, you’ll pay $99.99 for business registration plus the state fee. If you plan to make use of its extensive legal features, then Rocket Lawyer may be worth the cost, but if you just need basic business formation services, it’s probably not the best option.

Customer Service

You can reach Rocket Lawyer’s customer support team by phone, live chat and email, and its business hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT. While the lack of weekend service isn’t ideal, having live chat and phone service available is good for those who value quick access to support and the convenience of multiple channels.

Reputation

At face value, Rocket Lawyer’s Excellent score on Trustpilot seems to be a positive, but the majority of these reviews are “invited,” while the average score of “verified” reviews is much lower. Some even accuse the company of tampering with reviews and making unwarranted charges, so it might be something to bear in mind before committing.

Features

The Basic plan from Swyft Filings covers just the bare minimum, such as performing a name check and preparing and filing the Georgia LLC formation documents. We find its feature set isn’t quite as robust as we’d like, with other service providers offering more in their starter plans. For example, compliance services, including the annual registration filing, are available only with the two paid plans.

The provider also boasts a “free statement of the incorporator to open a business bank account” for all plans. It’s a good idea to open a separate business bank account, as it can help protect your personal finances. However, banks typically just ask for your business formation documents (the approved articles of organization) to open an account, making this free statement potentially not very useful.

While there are other perks in the higher-tier plan, such as customizable legal documents, alternative providers offer this as well. We do like the one-year domain subscription from Web.com that’s included in the top plan. A business website is pretty much a must these days.

Pricing

Swyft Filings starts its LLC formation services at $0, excluding Georgia’s $100 state fee. For additional benefits, there are two higher-tier plans, Standard ($199, plus the Georgia filing fee for a total of $299) and Premium ($299, plus the state filing fee for a total of $399). The pricier plans may be worth the extra cost, as they include perks such as instant electronic delivery of state documents when forming your LLC.

Swyft Filings offers a 100% money-back guarantee of any service fees paid to the company. However, the company can’t refund state or government fees.

Customer Service

The Swyft Filings learning center includes helpful state-specific guides, among other resources. Telephone customer support is available Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. We were unable to find a chat support option.

Reputation

Swyft Filings has an excellent Trustpilot rating, backed by more than 6,000 reviews. We did notice that some negative reviews were updated after the company took notice and resolved the complaint, which seems like a good sign. This company pays attention to what its consumers have to say. That said, this LLC service is not BBB accredited.

Expert Take

Features

Although Northwest Registered Agent is primarily a registered agent service for businesses across the U.S., it also offers business formation services that allow you to form your LLC and expand to states anywhere in the country, including Washington, D.C.

If you opt for Northwest Registered Agent, you’ll get a year free of its registered agent service, alongside a free domain, website, email and phone for your business, and free mail forwarding. The plan also includes an operating agreement, as well as Northwest Registered Agent’s focus on security through its Privacy by Default feature, which means your business address and details are kept hidden wherever possible.

Pricing

Northwest Registered Agent has one plan, which costs a flat fee of $39 on top of state fees—$100 in Georgia—for filing your LLC. While its registered agent service comes free for the first year, it will resume at $125 a year. All additional services, such as getting an employer identification number (EIN), trademark services and a virtual address, cost extra. As far as pricing goes, it’s in the middle, but given that there are few extra services on offer, you might find more value elsewhere.

Customer Service

You can reach Northwest Registered Agent’s customer support team by phone, email and live chat, but there isn’t a lot of information about business hours. Additionally, there is a live chat button on its website, but we weren’t able to access an agent and had to leave a message.

Reputation

Northwest Registered Agent’s reputation among its customers online is okay but not remarkable—it has an average rating from about 100 Trustpilot reviews at the time of writing, so it’s not the most reliable source of information. Reviews seem to vary, with some critical of its reliability and support.

  • Free registered agent service for a year

Expert Take

Features

BetterLegal is our pick for businesses that want an LLC formation service with a strong focus on compliance, ensuring you file all ongoing paperwork with the state. It offers a core business formation service for LLCs and corporations at a flat rate plus state fees, and this includes an EIN, operating agreement and a banking resolution. It also includes a free website, tax analysis and business checking, and the option to add BetterLegal’s integrated payroll, benefits and HR platform.

BetterLegal’s state compliance service is an ongoing add-on subscription, as is its registered agent service. While it offers plenty in the way of business formation and management, it does lack the extra legal and attorney features that other providers offer.

Pricing

BetterLegal’s flat pricing structure is one of the more expensive on our list, costing $299 for both LLC and corporation formation as well as state fees—in this case, $100 for Georgia. It’s also an extra $10 a month or $90 a year for both its state compliance and registered agent services, but this is relatively affordable compared to other providers. It’s another $125 if you opt for its business permit and license search.

Overall, it’s a pricey service and might offer good value for those who need a consistent compliance service, but it’s lacking broader features that others provide.

Customer Service

You can reach BetterLegal’s customer service team through phone, live chat and contact form online. The variety of options is fair, offering different ways of getting a quick response. Along with most providers, it only has Monday to Friday customer support between the hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, so you won’t find any weekend service. However, online reviews of its customer support team are mostly positive, which is encouraging.

Reputation

BetterLegal has an Excellent score on Trustpilot, but this is from just over 300 reviews at the time of writing. That being said, many of the comments are particularly positive about the ease with which you can set up an LLC.

Pros & Cons
  • Strong ongoing compliance support
  • Fast internal processing in two business days
  • Flat pricing structure

Expert Take

Features

Filenow’s features are distributed across two packages, a basic (Starter) package and a Premium package, that are clearly priced with no hidden fees. The Starter package gives you the basics you need to get your LLC legally established and includes unlimited customer support by phone and email as well as what it calls “company alerts,” which are reminders of important dates and approaching legal deadlines.

The Premium plan includes everything that comes with the basic package and adds a full year of registered agent service. You also get other critical cornerstones of an LLC such as an EIN, an operating agreement and a banking resolution, enabling you or an employee to open a bank account in the name of the new company. Also, all of the added features built into the Premium plan can be added to the Starter plan for an additional fee.

Pricing

Filenow’s Starter package is a one-time payment of $49 plus the state filing fee. The Premium package is $199 plus the $100 state filing fee. An important note is that while the first year of registered agent service included with the Premium package is free, it will then cost $119 a year going forward.

You can also add features to the Starter plan, and the individual costs are fairly reasonable ($75 for an EIN or $50 for an operating agreement, for instance), though if you want the whole suite of features, it’s much cheaper to upgrade to the Premium plan. Overall, the two plans are fairly priced compared to competitors, though the Starter package is in some ways closer to the free plans offered at some other LLC service companies.

Customer Service

Filenow’s online resources are relatively scant, though it does have a blog on its website where you can read articles about how to form an LLC in the U.S. or which states are best for LLC formation. You can reach the company’s customer support by email, phone or through an online contact form.

Reputation

Filenow has a very good reputation with its customers. Several reviews highlight the company’s fast and easy filing services as well as excellent customer service.

What Is an LLC Service?

An LLC service will help you launch an LLC in Georgia. The best options will not only handle all the necessary filings with the Georgia Secretary of State and Corporations Division but will also assist with other legal requirements such as establishing registered agent service (to handle legal correspondence) or filing your articles of organization.

Learn more: For a step-by-step guide, read our walk-through on how to set up an LLC in Georgia.

Georgia LLC Requirements

You need to be aware of state-specific requirements before you begin your filing in Georgia. First, the name of your company must include the words Limited Liability Company and any abbreviations of those words to be legally registered as an LLC in Georgia. Also, ensure that the name of your company is available; many of the best LLC services will conduct a business name search for you, some for free as part of the LLC formation package. If you need to reserve a name until you’re prepared to file, you can file a corporate name reservation application with the state for $25.

A registered agent is also required to form an LLC in Georgia. The business owner can act as a registered agent, or you can get registered agent service through a third party. Again, many of the services on our list will provide registered agent service, some for free, some for an additional fee.

You can then register your business online through the Georgia Corporations Division website or complete the articles of organization form and mail it to the Georgia Secretary of State and Corporations Division. You must then pay filing fees of $100.

Finally, most Georgia LLCs are required to file a beneficial ownership information (BOI) report to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network within their first 90 days of business. Beginning on January 1, 2025, this filing period will be reduced to 30 days.

How To Choose the Best Georgia LLC Service

It’s important to consider a few crucial factors when trying to find the best Georgia LLC service for your business. Ideally, you want a service that offers a straightforward route to formation, with a fast turnaround time and good customer support.

Essential LLC Service Features

While specific needs are likely to vary between different types of businesses and industries, here are some of the key features to look for in an LLC service.

  • Formation service: It should offer assistance with filing paperwork such as the articles of organization.
  • Registered agent service: It may also offer registered agent services so it can receive important legal documentation on your LLC’s behalf.
  • Compliance monitoring: A good LLC service will monitor deadlines for compliance requirements such as your annual registration and various other state-specific due dates.
  • Templates: You should also have access to customizable templates for various legal documents and items of paperwork.
  • Business license research: Your chosen service might also identify necessary licenses or permits you require to conduct business in Georgia.

Packages and Add-Ons

Some of the providers we’ve reviewed offer an add-on pricing structure that often gives you access to its core LLC filing service for free (not including state fees, which in Georgia amount to $100). This can be useful for businesses that may only need some of the services listed above, while more premium plans are likely to offer some or all of these as standard.

However, the cost of add-ons can quickly add up, so it can offer better value for some businesses, especially bigger companies with more complex requirements, to choose higher-tier plans and benefit from the full range of services.

Ease of Use

Most platforms will give you access to a centralized dashboard where you can view and manage various aspects of your business, including paperwork and deadlines. Look for something with an easy-to-use and intuitive interface, along with helpful guidance and quick access to customer service.

Customer Service

Customer service and support are key for resolving issues. Unfortunately, 24/7 support is rare for LLC services; only one of the providers we’ve reviewed offers it. Most will offer support Monday through Friday during their business hours, but some also offer support on weekends, which can be ideal for businesses that operate on all days of the week.

Live chat and phone support are the quickest ways to access help when you need it, so look for companies that offer one or both of these options.

How Much Do LLC Services Cost in Georgia?

A business could complete its own LLC paperwork and file its application with the Georgia Secretary of State and Corporations Division for only the cost of filing the articles of organization ($100). You will also need to file an annual registration for a $50 (or $60 for paper filing) fee. On the other end of the scale, a company may require financial and legal advice before filing, and it may need to pay for business and other licenses. It may also want to pay for LLC compliance, expedited processing and other add-on services that can drive up the total cost of the process to $4,000.

You’ll also have to pay Georgia state income tax based on your net income. However, you can deduct up to $5,000 of the cost of forming the LLC in one tax year.
