Why We Picked It

Momentum Solar won the best solar company in Connecticut for standard warranties, with a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. The company boasts carrying solar panels with 25-year workmanship warranties—among the best of the best when compared to other companies, whose workmanship warranties typically hover around the 10-year mark. In addition, Momentum Solar partners with Enphase to provide solar storage with a 15-year limited warranty.

Most of Momentum’s panels also have the standard 25-year manufacturer’s warranty, although the company doesn’t specify the types of panels it offers. While Momentum excels in providing affordable solar systems with a high satisfaction rating of 70% in our survey, the company’s app ratings were less than desirable, with an average overall rating of just 2.5 stars out of 5.

Why We Picked It

Compared to other solar companies we researched, Qcells had some of the best efficiency ratings for its solar panels, with a 22.5% maximum efficiency compared to an average of 21.33% in the solar panels we researched.

The company manufactures solar panels using rigorous testing standards and has an ambitious goal to distribute panels worldwide. This dedication to providing high-quality equipment shows in our consumer survey, where customers reported high satisfaction and a low need for repair work.

However, Qcells only offers three solar panel modules, which can limit your options if you’re looking to pick and choose from several manufacturers. You also must work with a third-party installer to have the panels installed, which can create extra steps in the communication process.

Learn more: Qcells review

Pros & Cons
  • 22.5% maximum efficiency rating
  • Extremely reliable solar panels
  • Manufacturers solar panels in-house
  • Only carries three solar panel modules
  • No installation team
Customer Survey

Qcells’s scores in our customer survey fell in the middle of many of the top companies, but it scored higher than all the companies in two categories: satisfaction with the durability and reliability of the solar panels, and likelihood of recommending the company to friends and family, with 72% of customer saying they would recommend Qcells, and 78% saying they were very satisfied with the performance of their solar panels.

How to Pick the Best Connecticut Solar Company for You

Finding the right solar company in Connecticut for your home installation is key to having the system you want, quality services and long-standing warranties that protect your investment. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Connecticut has 55 installers and developers competing for solar services. To help you settle on a reputable company, follow these steps:

  1. Decide on which solar equipment you want to install. Not all companies carry solar batteries or a variety of solar panels, so this can quickly help you narrow down the results.
  2. Once you’ve found installers that carry the items you want, gather at least three companies to compare prices, services, equipment and reviews.
  3. Research the quality of the solar panels and equipment to ensure you’re investing in the best solar panel system that will hold up and perform well during its lifetime.
  4. Look at each company’s reputation on unbiased third-party websites like Forbes, Google Reviews, Yelp and the BBB.
  5. Check the warranties for the products, performance and workmanship. Top Connecticut solar installers have 25-year warranties or greater for the panels and labor.
  6. See which payment options are available. If you don’t plan on paying in cash, do you want a solar lease or power purchase agreement (PPA), solar loan or some combination?

How Much Does a Solar System Cost in Connecticut?

The average cost of a solar panel system in Connecticut ranges from $16,600 to $20,500. This is for the average solar panel system of 6.5 kilowatts (kW), but you could spend less or more depending on the size of your system.

Solar Panel Cost Factors

Solar panel costs can vary from $7,700 up to $34,700, so consider these factors to help you know exactly what determines the cost of your solar panels.

  • Size: A 3-kW solar system is going to cost significantly less than an 11,000-kW system. Generally, solar panels cost between $2.55 and $3.15 per watt, so your household size and energy consumption play a huge role in determining the size and cost of the system.
  • Quality: Higher-quality solar panels utilizing the latest technology will cost more than older solar panel designs that are less efficient. You can expect to spend more on Tier 1 panels that have N-type solar cells than you would on Tier 3 panels that use P-type cells.
  • Labor: Every installer has their own way of calculating costs and writing up a quote, so be sure to shop around and compare rates to land the best deal. Ask for an itemized breakdown of the services you’re going to receive to compare.
  • Brand: Name-brand companies with outstanding reputations may have higher price tags to show for it, but the quality may outweigh the cost in the long run by providing you with more energy for the same system size as lower-performing brands.
  • Additional equipment: If you need to install solar batteries, then you can expect an increase of $1,700 to $9,000 to have that energy backup system installed.
