This morning, Lumos was proud to co-host a reflection and learning session with the Kenyan Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services on the implementation of holistic, systemic care reform. This event was an opportunity for reflection following the completion of a pilot care reform programme in the Rift Valley region of Kenya, to provide attendees with an overview of the methods used to implement sustainable care reform, and to discuss the financing of continued work on care reform in Rift Valley and throughout Kenya. During the session, stakeholders committed to scaling up the work done in Rift Valley into other regions of the country, taking on lessons learned from the implementation process. Two key documents, the Costed Regional Roadmap to Care Reform and the Case Management Process Plan, were also launched as part of this event. Lumos would like to thank the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, and Children Services, Ms. Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, and the Principal Secretary, Carren Agengo, for their presence at the meeting, as well as all other presenters from the session.  We are excited to see how the successes seen in Rift Valley can be replicated across Kenya to ensure that all children in the country are able to grow up and thrive in family-based care. 💙 “I know my child’s development is slower, but here I can already see real improvements” – Victoria, mother of Elisei, a 1-year-4-month-old boy diagnosed with #Down syndrome. At the Early Childhood Intervention Centre in Cimișlia, every small step is a great victory. Elisei is learning to sit, while Amelia – a little girl diagnosed with #autism and ADHD – has started singing, dancing, and discovering the world with #confidence. For parents, this Centre means more than #therapies. It offers #hope, psychological #support, and the reassurance that they are not alone. 🤝 Thanks to our partners - the Government of Germany, via the German Development Bank KfW, and in partnership with Lumos Moldova and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, we have opened two Early Childhood Intervention Centers in Cimișlia and Fălești. Five Child Development Offices have been established in each of the two districts, located within the Rural Health Centers and Family Doctors' Offices. Here, children with developmental delays receive personalized therapies, and parents find encouragement and strength to move forward. 👉 Read the stories of families from Cimișlia: https://shorturl.at/S1Wsm #ForEveryChild #EarlyDevelopment #ECI #UNICEFMoldova

Congratulations and thank you to UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for your leadership on the Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform. There was tangible energy in the room when the Charter was launched in New York this week, with commitments from 30 governments and powerful messages including from those with lived experience of care, from David Lammy, and from UNICEF Executive Director Cathy Russell. Our shared vision of a world in which every child grows up in a safe and loving family is within our grasp. The Charter propels us forward together. We now need to provide support where it is needed and catalyse more governments to join the growing movement. Every child has the right to a safe and loving family. But an estimated 5.4 million children around the world are living in harmful institutions. If we are to see an end to this practice, we must all unite around the mission to realise every child’s right to a family. This is why Lumos is pleased to endorse the new Global Charter on Care Reform for Children, led by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and initiated by the UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy when he was Foreign Secretary. The Charter, launched yesterday in New York during UNGA 80 with Lumos CEO Howard Taylor in attendance, brings welcome focus and attention to this urgent issue. By signing the Charter, governments demonstrate that they are committed to a collective global effort to ensure that every child, everywhere, grows up in a family. It is also a first step: we then hope to see Governments use the Charter as a springboard to make tangible commitments that enable adequate investment in preventing family separation, providing alternative family care and ending institutionalisation. There must also be a strong focus on leaving no child behind when developing these commitments - notably children with disabilities, who are at a heightened risk of institutionalisation and face a greater likelihood of abuse or neglect once there. Now, we call on all governments to formally join this movement and stand alongside other global leaders by signing the Charter. Civil society organisations should also consider showing their support for the Charter so, together, we can turn the tide on how we care for children globally. Find out more about the Charter, and how governments can reaffirm or contribute their pledges: https://lnkd.in/eMPrBNBP
