BNNRC written inputs on WSIS+20 Zero Draft The Bangladesh NGOs Network Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has already submitted written inputs on WSIS+20 Zero Draft to the Co-Facilitators of the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) process in collaboration with the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Pact for Future, Bangladeshi CSOs Initiative (BCI). We commend the zero draft as a promising step forward compared to the Elements Paper, as it establishes important foundations for future progress. By grounding the WSIS process in international human rights law and prioritizing gender mainstreaming, it effectively promotes inclusive development. The reaffirmation of multistakeholder cooperation as a guiding principle is also a commendable aspect. Furthermore, the establishment of the IGF as a permanent body signifies a strategic move towards greater stability and alignment with the GDC and the 2030 Agenda. Very pleased to share a new co-authored publication: “𝐀 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡”, part of the READS Programme, led by the Global Platform for Action (GPA). This report pulls together evidence and practitioner experience on #energy #access in the Rohingya response (Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char), and provides recommendations for investable project concepts to guide future programming and finance. A personal highlight for me was visiting the camps as part of the MECS programme-funded 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐞-𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, and then taking part in the 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 2025 𝐜𝐨-𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐱’𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫 where refugee/community representatives and practitioners jointly shaped what “next steps” should look like in practice. 𝐀 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: - Clean cooking is near-universal via LPG (~99% coverage), but household electricity access remains limited and fragmented. - Evidence from the MECS-supported pilot (GPA Coordination Unit with IUCN and Practical Action) included a 1,000-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, 54 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 40-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐞-𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧; during the pilot, 𝐋𝐏𝐆 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 75% 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬, with high user satisfaction. - Institutional e-cooking is already showing promise: a 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩 12 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 using solar PV electric cooking 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐏𝐆 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 83%. A must read for anyone working on humanitarian energy, clean cooking, or displacement policy.
