Microsoft just announced 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝟳, dropping a masterclass in modern systems engineering: ⚡ 𝟭𝟬𝘅 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗽 for compiler and tooling speeds. ⏱️ Compiling VS Code dropped from 𝟱𝟬 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 down to 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀. 💨 Tooling operations like global references and syntax errors are now virtually 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀. They achieved an order-of-magnitude speedup on the exact same hardware by returning to 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: 1️⃣ 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀: They ported the entire compiler codebase from JavaScript to 𝗚𝗼, neutralizing the high-compute bottlenecks of JS. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱-𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Every phase - parsing, binding, and type-checking - now concurrently targets all available CPU cores instead of leaving them idle. Great article, Derek. I completely agree that the need for broad systems thinking hasn't died; it's just evolved. I've always resonated with the concept of the 'paint drip' shaped engineer, someone who builds a broad foundational understanding across systems but develops deep, specialized expertise in specific areas as complex projects demand it. If anything, AI makes this exact profile even more powerful. It acts as a massive force multiplier, accelerating our ability to dive deep into those specialized 'drips,' while we still rely on our broader architectural perspective to stitch everything together and understand the system-wide impact. The titles might be changing, but the value of connecting the dots is higher than ever.

The sample demonstrates how to: • Provision an AKS Automatic cluster • Deploy a Microsoft Foundry model • Build and publish a Streamlit chatbot with Azure Container Registry • Authenticate from AKS using workload identity • Call Foundry without storing API keys in Kubernetes • Deploy and expose the application through a Kubernetes service AKS Automatic manages much of the underlying cluster configuration, node provisioning, and scaling, letting developers focus more on the AI workload.
