Great Deal !! Impressive tech

Great Deal !! Impressive tech
I am a nvidia shield tv pro user. So coming from 2 full sized usb 3 ports, 3gb ram & a machine that supports AI upscaling software trickery. So Am I missing all that ? For some reason no, not that much. The fire tv cube is newer hardware and feels powerful. It outputs a distinct and crisp colour tone which I can’t explain but feels nicer and perfect to the eye on an oled screen. It doesn’t have an aggressive AI upscaling tech on <4k videos like the shield tv pro but feels as if it has some form of processing that makes the image smooth , sharp enough and pleasing to the eye. The interface is easy to use, I don’t miss Google tv and I have a handful of apps that I use that run perfectly for my streaming needs. The software is fast ,the remote is tactile and overall performance is responsive and zippy. The usb port can read from fat 32 or ntfs file format and I had no issues playing back large 4K video files. I don’t miss usb 3.0 this with usb 2.0 just works fine. The build quality of the cube is impressive and it’s fine little tech. What’s more impressive is that streaming wise supports hdr and Dolby vision in more apps that’s matters for example YouTube. The shield tv pro cannot playback in hdr on YouTube it’s just displays in sdr. Nvidia has done nothing in years to update the the shield tv pro. The firecube can play YouTube in HDR when available and the result is so impressive. The firetv has made my viewing experience perfect on my Oled display. Now what’s even more impressive is echo dot or Alexa built in!! Just wow I love it and this device has finally made my home smarter. I control lights in all my rooms via voice. All these features had made me forget Nvidia shield tv pro. So do I miss anything about the shield tv pro? May the AI upscaling a tiny little bit but not that much. I am absolutely loving the firetv cube, it’s a no fuss device that elevates your entertainment setup and is actually really useful. I highly recommend the firecube tv. And by the way I am all this happier because I got this on 50% sale deal that’s what makes it a sweet purchase yep, paid like $98 AUD or ~$64usd. What a steal !! What a bargain. Love it. Oh forgot to say firetv also has hdmi in port as well!! So good.

1 year on I purchased the Fire TV Cube on sale for my lounge room setup, and it’s been a great addition. I’ve connected it to my 75-inch Smart TV, and it’s taken my viewing experience to a whole new level. I have 4 other fire sticks but the Cube is a game changer

First Impressions: Right out of the box, the Fire TV Cube is sleek and compact, which makes it a great fit for my entertainment setup. It’s not bulky like some other streaming devices, and the remote is responsive. The setup was easy too—just follow the on-screen instructions, and you’re good to go.

Detailed Experience: I use the Fire TV Cube for streaming everything from Netflix to Prime Video to YouTube, and it’s fast and smooth. The 4K resolution looks great on my big TV, and the picture quality is sharp. The voice control feature is super convenient—just say what you want to watch, and it’ll find it for you. Plus, I’ve got it integrated with Alexa, so I can control the TV and other smart devices around the house. It’s like having a personal assistant built right into the TV.

    Key Features & Benefits:

The 4K streaming and Dolby Vision support are fantastic for my large TV.
Voice control through Alexa is super convenient, and it works flawlessly with my other smart devices.
The Fire TV Cube is quick and responsive, with no lag or buffering.
The device supports a ton of streaming services, which is great for variety.

Cons: The only downside I’ve noticed is that the remote could be a bit more intuitive. Sometimes it takes a second to figure out the different functions, but it’s not a huge issue once you get used to it.

Final Thoughts/Recommendation: Overall, I’m really happy with the Fire TV Cube. It’s an easy way to enhance your TV viewing experience, especially if you already have a smart home setup. If you’re looking for a fast, reliable streaming device, this one is definitely worth considering—especially when you can grab it on sale!

First of all - for anyone reading this in July 2024, who may be able to buy this for 50% off... I can't even describe the value. Even full price, this thing is a beast, and totally worth $200. I'm able to load 50GB films, the Cube loads them within ~10 seconds and off you go.

Skipping backwards and forwards in such large films doesn't affect performance, it doesn't cause the Cube to crash or slow down, it is just snappy, efficient and speedy. At the same time - if you're not getting it for a discount, it is a ~$200 device. Is it worth that? I would say yes, 100%, and that is coming from someone who has finally upgraded from a Firestick 4K Max.

This Cube also blows my Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K to smithereens, it is just so much more powerful. But again - this device costs more than those, as the tech is simply much more suited to handling big files and more challenging applications. Having owned and sold an Nvidia Shield TV Pro... I'd say this is better value. Nvidia released the Shield so long ago, it is updated only irregularly, and I just don't think it's worth $~150 to $~200 more than this Cube. I do love the OS on the Nvidia though.

I am running this Cube with a Samsung S90C OLED, with my Sonos Arc + surrounds + sub connected via eArc - no issues at all with playing streams that support Dolby Atmos and virtually any file type except for DTS (still struggling to get that to work - it does "work", but only as 2.1 stereo - unsure if that is an issue with the Cube, the Arc, or whether it's because the Samsung doesn't support DTS).

But ultimately, anything from any large streaming service, e.g. Netflix/Stan/Binge/Prime will play and the audio - if 5.1 or 7.1 - will load no matter what. The issue only arises with Bluray films that use DTS. One workaround, if faced with that issue, is to just get a Bluray player (4K or not) that can transcode DTS into something that you can play, if DTS is only playing as 2.1 stereo on this Cube. It just comes down to your setup.

So yes, it is very powerful, it is efficient and snappy, I've been testing it for quite some time now and I've had zero issues. The only complaints - I wish there was less advertising on the homepage, I dislike (to an extent) that it pulls me into the Amazon ecosphere when I am very much in the Apple ecosystem (hence my other device being an Apple TV 4K), perhaps the remote could be a little more solid (but it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy at all, it just isn't weighty like the Apple TV 4K's remote), and some apps aren't in Amazon's app store. Plus you can't, of course, cast like you can with the Chromecast (with or without TV).

Otherwise, what else... the addition of Wifi 6, let alone Wifi 6E, is great. But at the same time, the device is maxing out at 300mbps down via our Wifi, without us needing to turn on the 6Ghz band (the router is about two metres away from the Cube with no walls etc between them). Our internet plan is for 300mbps down, I'm sure if we had e.g. gigabit internet, the Cube would be even faster. Depending on the file size of what you're playing, though, I'm sure you could get away with 200mbps or less even.

It is a shame that the ethernet port (if I'm not wrong) is capped at 100mbps down, but I know you can use a USB-to-ethernet adapter and get much better speeds with this Cube, via ethernet. It is a shame because some of the content I am playing goes beyond 100mbps, although buffering does help there, along with just... an ethernet connection would be good for getting another device off the Wifi. As we all know, hardwired is always better!

In terms of the actual physical unit - it is very small! As per the pictures that Amazon has provided where you can see it next to a TV. It's really small, which is great, as it's easy to hide. You can't even see ours, it is hidden behind our Arc and behind the TV, yet still works without issue in terms of connectivity, with the remote, and as stated, the download speed remains very high. It has to be in that spot due to where the powerpoint is and where the HDMI port is. The unit doesn't feel flimsy, but nor does it feel super sturdy.

As stated, the remote is also between flimsy and solid. The Apple TV 4K remote, by contrast - that one, the quality is just palpable. The Cube's remote is nowhere near as nice. But, as I said, it doesn't feel flimsy or as though it will break quickly. The buttons are nice, they "click" nicely, they're responsive. Setting up the device was as easy as anything, it was up and running within ~10 minutes (~5 minutes but then had to update).

Overall - 10/10 purchase, I love it. I swap between this and my Apple TV 4K, though - partly because the Apple I have hardwired so can get better latency, partly so that I can use my AirPods to listen to films at night (can even add a second pair for my partner), partly because I prefer the OS and interface, partly due to the integration of things sync with my iPhone and Mac (e.g. videos, photos, music library which I can play in lossless/Dolby Amtos et cetera), and ultimately, the performance feels virtually identical to this Cube.

Just go for it - you won't regret it. And I'm saying this as someone who has an expensive 2023 smart OLED - it is so much nicer to use the Cube's interface than the TV's interface. If you've got an older TV that isn't smart, or is smart but sluggish etc - this Cube would make your TV feel luxurious. If you want to spend less, I'd recommend the Fire TV Stick 4K Max or the Chromecast with Google TV 4K. But they honestly feel 30%-40% less powerful. The Apple TV 4K remains a very solid alternative to this Cube, but you do really need to be in the Apple ecosphere to make that purchase worth it.

𝙀𝘿𝙄𝙏: 𝘼𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙮 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙏𝙑 4𝙆 + 𝙉𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤 (𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣, 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙-𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙). This device (Cube) isn't perfect - it definitely isn't quite as snappy as the Shield Pro when playing files, but on the other hand, the Cube's UI is snappier. Furthermore, I use the Apple TV 4K for the reasons I stated earlier (integration with Apple ecosystem, which means many advantages for me as an Apple "addict", along with things like being able to use my AirPods Pro with the Apple TV 4K et cetera).

So I don't know that I could live with this device, and this device alone, without the Shield Pro and Apple TV 4K. But again - I'm not a person who consumes media purely via Netflix etc. For that usage, that caseload, that way of consuming content, the Cube is incredible and very good value for money, and I'd still say it's worth the extra cost compared with the Stick 4K (or Google TV 4K). I'd even say - if you have the money, and this will be your one-and-only device - it is worth the $200 "standard" price (as at August 2024).

But for me - as someone who has a lot of movies et cetera on external SSDs, as someone who often plays very demanding files (e.g 60GB Remux films with DV/HDR + Dolby Atmos audio), as someone who does other things like playing media through Plex (remotely via an SSD etc), and as someone who has a Sonos system which can be very "picky" (especially with DTS and its various forms)... I need all three devices to cover all of my bases.

But again, my five stars and the original review remain accurate - it's an incredibly powerful, easy-to-use, snappy, satisfying device that will suit at least 90% of people. Especially people who consume media purely via Netflix etc, and people who are using a non-smart TV (or one that is a smart TV that is slow). For those people - this is just... outstanding. I (along with others here, seemingly) am an outlier, and I don't e.g. watch films via the more "traditional" methods. 𝙄𝙛 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙, 𝙄'𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙏𝙑 4𝙆 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚!

Best way to watch your Netflix, Prime, or local media.
I use my Fire to watch media of my NAS, as well as Prime, on my non-smart TV.
Having the ability to add apps, such as VLC (best media player out there), this is the perfect player to have. Having voice, and a remote, with the ability to also create scenes, which allow you to say, turn on the TV, and a Media Amp, and set the correct inputs, is a real boom. You use the one remote, to control nearly all your devices.
They other thing, unlike a lot of those cheaper android media boxes, all over the internet, you are not putting your person privacy, and network at risk. This player is secure, without the spyware those other players nearly always pack.
Another plus - it's an Alex in disguise!
