Nate Bills posted thisMy chapter at Lyra Health came to a close this month, and as I continue to reflect on my 4.5-year journey, I find myself looking back with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I joined Lyra in August 2021 as the second Implementation Manager as our organization and team were navigating the wild west of rapid scaling. I stepped into the role with no EAP or health plan knowledge and experience; I barely understood the differences between copays and deductibles, and I remember the word “COBRA” scaring me for about 6 months. Yet, Lyra’s leadership and team took a chance on me, and provided me with the ongoing trust and autonomy to learn, grow, improve, and execute. If I could rewind and tell the younger me - especially the lost high school kid who was cutting class, drinking, smoking, and struggling - that I’d be onboarding and managing projects for the world’s top employers and health plans, he would’ve thought that I was nuts (and a nerd). But Lyra’s impact wasn’t just professional, it was deeply personal. I joined Lyra as a young man, and I’ve left as a husband and a father. Lyra was the backdrop for many of my major life milestones: getting our first puppy and the heartbreak of losing him too soon, marrying my now wife, finding out she was pregnant, welcoming our first daughter into the world, navigating moves from Colorado to New York and then ultimately Florida so that my wife could pursue her clinical psychology doctoral dreams, and eventually welcoming our second daughter into the world. Through every moment, I was surrounded by a strong and compassionate community, largely composed of incredible women and mothers, who offered relentless support and understanding. Whether it was medical appointments or the daycare disease of the week (half joking), unwavering empathy was woven into the fabric of Lyra’s culture. Working for a mental health company also gave me the permission to prioritize my own. From past family traumas to juggling the responsibilities and stress of being a younger parent, seeking and engaging in care through Lyra opened the door for me to better understand and process my emotions, beliefs, values, and actions. To all of the Lyra teammates and leaders who’ve become lifelong friends, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I’m better for having been a part of Lyra’s mission, and I’m leaving with a lifetime of memories and experience. And if you’re reading this, and you and/or a loved one are struggling, I hope you can find the right care and peace that you deserve. Life's too short.
