Rockets' Steven Adams: Fully cleared for Houston
Adams has been fully cleared after undergoing left ankle surgery in January, head coach Ime Udoka said Tuesday, according to Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle.
The veteran center had previously been limited prior to training camp, but Udoka expects him to play during Houston's preseason trip to Macao. Adams may still be limited during back-to-back sets early in the regular season as the Rockets manage his workload following the procedure.

Rockets' Amen Thompson: Looking to improve shot ahead of 2026-27
Thompson has been working on his free throws and jumper with shooting coach Chip Engelland this offseason, and head coach Ime Udoka said his growth will initially focus on increasing his efficiency from the midrange, Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Thompson turned in a career year in 2025-26 before landing a five-year, $208 million extension earlier this month. The 23-year-old averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks across 37.4 minutes per game in 79 regular-season appearances last year. However, his three-point shot remained a weakness, as he knocked down just 21.6 percent of his limited attempts from downtown. The 2023 No. 4 overall pick did shoot a career-best 77.9 percent from the free-throw line last season, though there's still room for improvement. Even if Thompson never develops into an above-average shooter, he's a well-rounded player who has already made strides as a playmaker. While his playmaking skills may be less utilized now that Fred VanVleet is back in the mix, Thompson should continue to play a key role while working to expand his offensive game.

Rockets' Alperen Sengun: Working on shot ahead of 2026-27 season
Sengun has been working with shooting coach Chip Engelland on his free throws and three-point shot, and the big man wants to make corner threes a bigger part of his game, Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Sengun is coming off another impressive year, averaging 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 33.3 minutes per game across 72 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. However, the star center shot just 69.1 percent from the charity stripe and 30.5 percent from downtown. He's been focused on improving in those areas this offseason, and an uptick in efficiency would be a significant step toward becoming a more well-rounded player.

Rockets' Fred VanVleet: Could start season on minutes restriction
Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that VanVleet's minutes limit will be determined by how he progresses through training camp, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
VanVleet missed the 2025-26 campaign after tearing his ACL last September, though he's been cleared to practice in full and has been participating in five-on-five scrimmages. The veteran point guard may begin the season on a minutes limit, which would leave additional playing time available for the likes of Reed Sheppard and Marcus Smart. Additionally, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Rockets limit VanVleet in back-to-back sets, especially early in the season as he works his way back up to speed.

Rockets' Steven Adams: Expected to be limited in back-to-backs
Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that he does not see Adams (ankle) playing in both halves of back-to-back sets to start the 2026-27 season, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
The veteran center underwent left ankle surgery in late January and is currently without a clear timetable for a return to the court. Udoka also noted that Adams' minutes limit will be determined by how he progresses in training camp. If the 33-year-old begins the season on the inactive list, Clint Capela would likely see a bump in minutes.

Rockets' Steven Adams: Uncertain return timeline
Adams (ankle) didn't offer a return timetable Monday at media day, per Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle.
Adams referred to the ankle surgery he underwent in January as "complicated." The veteran center's status will remain worth monitoring throughout training camp and the preseason. Clint Capela should take on the leftover reps as the No. 2 center until Adams is cleared for action.

Rockets' Clint Capela: Trims down this offseason
Capela is feeling healthy after trimming down his weight this offseason, per Ben DuBose of USA Today.
Capela could occupy the backup center role to open the season due to the uncertainty surrounding the status of Steven Adams, who's coming off ankle surgery. Alperen Sengun will handle the lion's share of the minutes at center, likely leaving Capela to fight for scraps off the bench in any event.

Rockets' Kevin Durant: Downplays talk of reduced minutes
Durant pushed back Monday on the idea of playing reduced minutes in his 20th season, per Ben DuBose of USA Today.
The future Hall of Famer logged 78 regular-season appearances last year, his most since 2018-19 with the Warriors. Durant also averaged 36.4 minutes per game before going down with an ankle injury and missing five of Houston's six playoff contests. However, it doesn't sound like the 37-year-old perennial All-Star is ready to take it easy for the contending Rockets in 2026-27. Durant trails only LeBron James among the NBA's active minutes leaders.

Rockets' Fred VanVleet: Fully cleared to practice
VanVleet (knee) has been cleared for full practice, coach Ime Udoka said Tuesday, according to Will Guillory of The Athletic.
Udoka also said VanVleet has already been participating in five-on-five scrimmages, suggesting he's close to 100 percent after missing the entire 2025-26 season. Still, the point guard says his knee isn't back to where it was before the injury. Regardless, Fantasy managers can anticipate that VanVleet will miss one game of back-to-back sets based on Udoka's comments, at least early on in the season.

Rockets' Fred VanVleet: Progressing in ACL rehab
Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that VanVleet (knee) is ramping up his rehab work, Lachard Binkley of SI.com reports.
With VanVleet having missed the entire 2025-26 campaign after suffering a torn ACL late last offseason, it's encouraging to hear he's back on the court. The veteran point guard is almost a full calendar year removed from the surgery, so there's optimism he'll be ready for Opening Night in late October. His level of participation in training camp and the preseason remains a question mark, though.

Rockets' Amen Thompson: Agrees to five-year extension
Thompson agreed to a five-year, $208 million extension Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
The deal will include a 10 percent trade kicker. An extension always seemed inevitable, as Thompson's two-way upside is through the roof. Across 79 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, he averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals.

Rockets' Rafael Castro: Signs with Rockets
Castro signed a two-way contract with the Rockets on Wednesday.
Castro is coming off an impressive season for George Washington, posting averages of 15.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.7 blocks and 1.7 assists across 27.3 minutes per game. He is expected to play a prominent role for Houston's G League affiliate to open the campaign.

Rockets' Sean Pedulla: Finds home with Houston
Pedulla and the Rockets agreed on a two-way deal Monday, per Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle.
After being waived by the Clippers earlier in August, Pedulla didn't have to wait long to get attention from another team and should assume a featured role with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Pedulla, who is the reigning G League Rookie of the Year, averaged 23.6 points, 6.4 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals for the Rip City Remix and San Diego Clippers during the 2025-26 G League regular season.

Rockets' Jabari Smith: Coming off solid season
Smith remained a key contributor for Houston, providing frontcourt size, floor spacing and defensive versatility throughout the 2025-26 season.
Smith's ability to complement both Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun gives him an important role on a team with championship aspirations. After an otherwise quiet offseason, Smith is expected to retain a prominent place in Houston's starting lineup entering 2026-27.

Rockets' Reed Sheppard: More competition for minutes
Sheppard showed flashes of becoming a long-term rotation piece during his second NBA season, demonstrating his ability to stretch the floor and handle secondary playmaking duties when called upon.
Although Houston's veteran core limits his offensive opportunities, the organization continues to value his shooting and decision-making. Sheppard should once again compete for consistent backcourt minutes while continuing his development behind the Rockets' established starters. However, his upside may not be as high with the return of Fred VanVleet (knee).
